Die Ausstellung „supercalifragilisticexpialidocious“ der Klasse formerlynotknown (Simeon Brugger & Zeynep Brugger) von der Fakultät für Architektur der Universität Innsbruck bespielt die Kellerräume des Hauses. Ausgangspunkt sind bekannte architektonische Grundrisse aus Los Angeles. In der Ausstellung werden sie mit Figuren aus der Alltagskultur kombiniert, die ebenfalls über Konturen und sofortige Wiedererkennbarkeit funktionieren. Durch Überlagerungen und neue Kompositionen entstehen hybride Zeichnungen, die feste Bedeutungen auflösen und Architektur als visuelle Sprache untersuchen.

“supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: On Hybrids and the Semiotics of Architecture” is an exhibition about architecture as a visual language shaped by reference. It considers how drawings and images circulate and are consumed and how architectural form is always operating under influence. Detached from their original contexts, these fragments and outlines persist as recognizable figures whose meanings shift as they move between visual and spatial interpretations. In doing so, the method and the studio work questions architectural authorship, suggesting form as the rearticulation of signs already in circulation.

“It can be described as a custom paint job specified for housing that raises questions of the significance of the architectural typologies of these buildings and their efficiency to fulfil the architectural and socio-economic impact the owners want to acquire. (...) Much like how “Projection” from Vincent Lamouroux stands out within the city of Los Angeles, as the context is very busy in terms of color and patterns, the houses of the “Disguised Suburbs” hide in plain sight by the application of colors applied on every element of their contexts."

"French formal gardens were first introduced as an embodiment of control and manipulation of natural resources to satisfy some aesthetic threshold. But what happens if there is no nature left to put into order? Fake nature has somewhat a quality, the artificiality, that allows to create reality and to do so Water Stuff samples the preexisting and superimpose it on itself. It is a garden of all styles and on steroids."

“Defined in the book “Image of the City” by Kevin Lynch, there are five elements that form the reading and definition of a city. One of the listed elements is the edge, the border. Los Angeles River can be defined as one of the major edges and divisions of the city. The separation of the city caused by the channel, not only affects the urban fabric but also the architectural programs, zones and also inhabitants. Therefore this has not only a geographical impact but more so a cultural one. Today the river itself acts as a neutral zone where almost nothing happens, mostly resembling a buffer zone.
The 𝟷sᴛ sᴛʀᴇᴇᴛ ᴘʟᴀᴢᴀ, unlike its precedents, functions very much like the city itself. There exists an agglomeration of different objects that are not bound to only one purpose. It presents itself as a hybrid between infrastructure, park and shopping mall as well as a river bed.”

"Building on the idea of connotation according to scale this project, the series of the cream objects, should be seen as a conceptual investigation of architectural parts. The parts of the sculptures can be seen as literal or in terms of a metaphor for assembled elements. It is dealing with combining two or more types of objects and therefore many object qualities arise that need to be considered. Found objects when used in another scale than what they are used to being in, can create a morphological nuance in architecture as well as a metaphorical phenomenon of meaning and relatability of the image known in different disciplines."
