• T E N • Celebrating ten years of Ladies Who Brunch in support of @stollerykids 💜
They say it takes a village, and our village here in #yeg is MIGHTY! Over the years we have come together for the hope that our future remains one where kids can always a be kids.
Tickets to this years High Tea brunch on Sunday May 3rd, 2026 at the @fairmontmac are sold out- but you can still be a part of the excitement by becoming a sponsor, donating, or being a part of our live or silent auction. 🙌🏽
I am always so blown away by the kind and generous souls who help make Ladies Who Brunch successful year after year - your energy and efforts truly make a difference in our community, and it shows🥹
This year we are raising funds towards a new Lipid Analyzer machine at the Stollery - giving the ability for advanced screening for ALL newborns to rule out congenital heart defects and disease - preventative cardiac care when we need it the most. AND, all donations will be matched by our generous sponsor Canadian Pacific Kansas City.
Now, more than ever, the difference is you.

• R E N A I S S A N C E • More than a woman…
We show up, we out and over perform.
We think it through and think it through again (and again, and again).
We do all the things, and then some. It’s never enough.
We sweeten our delivery to be nice, to play fair and to not to hurt feelings.
We stand tall with a smile even when we are crying inside.
We justify what we do with ‘because.’
We exist to please.
And then Renaissance.
It doesn’t come quietly, we deny it, fight it, and pretend that everything is status quo. In an attempt for equality we sacrifice our very being. It hits you like a Mac truck, a wall of bricks, it’s heavy, and we cannot carry it anymore. Exhaustion, burnout, we research, justify, and read some more.
We go inward after being tired for so long.
We remember our power and our strength.
We find solace in rest and release our performative identity.
We take pleasure in a pace that is soft and slow.
We let go of the expectation we put on ourselves.
We deeply connect with our inner feminine and realize that this was our power all along.
We do this together, and together as a female collective is where we are meant to be .
Because the art of being a woman is to just (yes just, and nothing else) BE 💫

• 2 0 1 6 • The year was 2016… ✨
Fun, carefree and in my element is what I think of when I think of 2016. The nostalgia of the year is something that you can’t escape! The year of the classic millennial look away photo, the music, and energy, all of it!
For me, 2016 was the precipice of immense growth and change. I was just leaning into my thriving practice as an associate working for someone, and spending my time modelling. I was actually shocked when I picked up my phone that this was a part of that era. I was also surprised to find that I rarely took any photos (in comparison to now!).
They say that there are cycles of transformation that happened throughout our lives, and for me 2016 was a cycle of not knowing what was to come, but knowing that everything about my inner being was about to shift - fast forward to now, ten years later I’m sure you could all agree that this shift and change is happening once again. And back then, just as it is now, it all started with letting go of the version yourself that is no longer aligned with who you are becoming.
A willingness to let go and lean into something completely different and new changed my trajectory and the course of my life forever. I encourage you to embrace the journey, because ten years from now we will look back and be like whoa, what a wild ride 2026 was. ⚡️✌🏽
Ps. This track was on my Top 25 playlist on Apple Music on my iPhone 6

• M E • Okay we’re back …
Every year I choose a word, to define my intention for the upcoming year. Last year my word was calm, aiding with managing ongoing stressors in my life. This year the word “Me” came about realizing that by December I am spent. I have nothing left to give… to myself. For all my eldest daughters, recovering perfectionists, entrepreneusr and do-ers of all the things we give SO MUCH of our energy, efforts, time and selves to others to live out the roles that have been defined by us, by society. We do it because it brings others joy, ourselves purpose, strokes our ego, and to some extent defines who we are meant to be. My word this year is what putting myself first looks like, and dedicating time first to me. For those who this resonates with, I encourage you to do the same. It feels icky, there are sometimes feeling of guilt, and disappointment from others but in this life, the time we have is all we have.
Take the moment to yourself, take back time, be the only person that you’re trying to make proud - your future self will thank you ✌🏽❤️
Happy New Year y’all!

• S Z N • ‘Tis the season 🤍
My fave look this holiday - a nod to the magic of winter whimsies.
While Christmas is just around the corner for those who celebrate, is it me or does it seem like it’s too soon? I have yet to decorate or put up the tree, and normally I’m ON it! 🎄
Is it really Christmas time?

• V I L L A G E • Yoga under the Stars through the years ✨
My first visit to the Telus World of Science as a little kid, I was enamoured by the Zeidler Dome planetarium - the cosmos were a place of wonder, what was beyond our physical Earth and what would it be like to travel beyond our gravity ridden rock spinning in the middle of the universe. My fascination with the stars became apparent when I planned the theme of my high school graduation (for those that remember, it was based on Vincent Van Gough’s Starry Night). Giant balls of fire, burning for billions of years, emitting a life source energy into the ether…. Fast forward to here and now, are we not the same?
Yoga Under the Stars was started with this passion, to bring movement and a love for things out of this world together all in support of a good cause, providing resources to kids who may not get the chance to be inspired just as I was many years ago.
Today, @kinetic.living was recognized at National Philanthropy Day for its commitment to community enrichment for Yoga Under the Stars at the @twosedm - a fill circle moment.
Year after year, the number of messages, thanks and gratitude of the event - that it was needed was a reminder that community matters.
We wouldn’t be here without the tireless effort of all of our volunteers and the Kinetic Team who saw my dream, and made it come to come to life 🙏🏽
A special thank-you to yoga and meditation instructors:
@daniellemurrayyoga@c_cheungster

And to the Kinetic Team and our Wellness Lounge - I am so grateful for you all. They say it takes a village, and that village inspires one kid with a dream ❤️

• C O N S I S T E N T • Just over here working on my arm game! 💪🏽 Taking up golf, as a long-time runner had me realizing that I’ve neglected my upper body workouts for a long time. This year, I’ve stayed consistent (as boring as it may have been), and it has significantly paid off. My swing has improved and I’m well on my way to doing a pull-up sans band. Not only does a strong upper body (shoulder in this case) support your posture, but it allows for an open chest cavity improving your breathing and digestion.
Proper aligned shoulder aren’t just for aesthetic, they help maintain ease of movement, help you increase your air exchange and aide with digesting foods, reducing bloating and so much more. Don’t get me wrong, like many (I’ve talked about this on a previous post) I’m not a fan of upper body workouts, but this time around it has been for keeps:
✅ Stay consistent
✅ Carve out 15 minutes the same time every day
✅ Have an accountability person (I will often get my patients to text me evidence that they are doing their exercises, it’s a reminder that they are putting in the work!)
✅ Afford yourself the opportunity to grow - after a ski injury, my dreadful fall running and bike crash it’s taken me ONE YEAR to be able to lift comfortably overhead. There is no rush in the game of life. These are a few of my faves:
1. 3x15 Bent Over Row to Tricep Kick Back - slow and steady, try not to use momentum you really want to feel every muscle activate here.
2. 3x15 Hammer Curl to Overhead Press - the rotation in the curl is KEY, it will have you working a different part of your bicep that is much needed for everyone.
3. 3x10 Lateral arm raise - these ones are HARD, go slow, and reduce your weights if needed. Focus on the smooth movement of your shoulder blades ensuring your shoulders do not come up to your ears.
15 minutes 4x a week is all you need.
Save for later to get shoulder rowdy - the doc is in 👉🏽

• N Y C • Of the many times I have been to NYC seeing it through a child’s eyes changes everything! On this girls trip, my five-year old niece got to join in on the fun. A few our our favourite things to do were on the menu and they did not disappoint:
1. DUMBO (down under the manhanttan bridge overpass) a visit to the iconic view of the Manhattan bridge and Jane’s 100 year old carousel ride that is only $3.
2. A NYC Bagel in Brooklyn, choose the locally owned fair. The gooey deliciousness is because of NY’s soft water mixture of calcium and magnesiujm that gets the gluten just right- yum!
3. Family-Friendly Serafina @serafinanewyork was our favourite, the best Cacio Pepe I’ve ever had, even my niece enjoyed it (and she is one tough cookie!)
4. Casa Tua @casatuacucina in the trendy Surrey hotel was another Italian favourite, I absolutely loved the lemon meringue tart here!
5. A visit to NYC isn’t a visit without going to the American Museum of Natural History @amnh - our history preserves our culture and much work has to be done to protect it and reveal many truths.
6. Central Park wandering is always on our list - this time we visited FOUR playgrounds (we had to find the right one of course 😉)
7. Year after year we stay at The Mark @themarkhotelny , and always visit the lounge frequented by fan favourite Gossip Girl - often you might spot a celebrity or two here! (Ask me and I’ll tell you who I’ve met and spotted!)
8. We took in Lion King on Broadway @thelionking - I cried when Mufasa died. This musical adaptation was phenomenal - and a reminder that our ancestors live in you and me 🫶🏽 As the city that truly never sleeps, there is something for everyone, save for later when a visit to the BIG APPLE is in order 🍎
Until next time NYC ✌🏽

• R E M I N D • When was the last time as an adult you took a moment for yourself for play - not the “to do” list of things you do on the regular, but stepped outside of your comfort zone into your child-like self again?
Imagine this, an evening of over three hundred women trying something they never thought was accessible in terms of sport or play. Such a fun evening with @jremekie and so many friends! Three hours of uninterrupted time of pure joy, laughter and being in community for an amazing cause. Honestly, it was the most fun I’ve had on the field in a long time, even with an injury, I laughed so hard my stomach hurt and reminded myself that more of these moments are in order.
Thank you to the @goelks@cfl football team and the @goelkscheer cheer squad for an evening I’ll never forget - the most FUN charitable event in support of ovarian cancer research. We are all still smiling from ear to ear; a reminder that play in our world today is necessary.
Ps. and for my female friends out there this is your reminder to go and get your annual PAP done, it’s your right and your future self with thank you ❤️✌🏽

• T R Y • My sixteen year old self would have never imagined that I would take up golf. Who are you? She would ask!!?!
Taking up the sport this summer was an opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone, an attempt to prepare my future self for continued body movement and while sometimes I’m still shocked to admit it I fell in love ❤️
Besides being something that 50, 60, and 70 year-old Kara can do later on in life, it has provided the opportunity to be a me to step into spaces I wouldn’t normally occupy; the biggest lesson in breaking barriers and going against the norm.
What an amazing weekend out on course at @fairmontjpl in support of @stollerykids at the annual Tee Up for Tots golf tournament - thank you to all the participants raising money and awareness for such a wonderful cause and to the @kinetic.living team for reppin’ Hole #1 ⛳️
And to 🐝 for being my partner in crime out on course.
Like anything in life, constant effort and improvement, accepting the good moments with the not so good moments (yes, I hit a few mulligans!) is the name of the game!
Hands down one of my favourite courses so far - where should I play next? 👇🏽
