Happy 5-Year Anniversary at the Guild to Southwest Program Manager Rachel Bean!
Rachel is a vital part of the Southwest Guild team — almost always arriving with her well-loved and seemingly bottomless thermos of hot tea in hand, and ever ready to lend a helping hand. Beyond managing both the Fire Adapted Communities New Mexico program and the Guild's Community Wildfire Defense Grant project in Santa Fe, she is also an exceptional field forester, community organizer, and colleague. And if that weren't enough, Rachel brings the same tireless dedication to prescribed burns, where she serves as a dependable and thorough fire effects monitor.

Happy 5-Year Anniversary at the Guild to Southwest Project Coordinator Sarah DeMay!
Not only does Sarah bring over 25 years of wildland fire management experience to her role at the Guild, she also brings a strong work ethic and a natural ability to connect with people. Whether she's serving as a burn manager on a Guild prescribed burn, leading a group of fire ecology enthusiasts on a field tour, teaching Forest Stewards Youth Corps crews in the classroom and in the field, or writing a watershed protection plan, Sarah consistently demonstrates leadership, professionalism, humor, and a collaborative spirit.

🌳 Why is biodiversity key to climate resilience?
Diverse forests store carbon better, support wildlife and bounce back from shocks. And thoughtful land management is a proven natural climate solution that helps make it possible.
In episode 7 of “Nature is the Solution,” forester Otis Wood of @LongviewForest in Vermont breaks down how soil and tree diversity transform land, and how everyday forest management adds up to meaningful climate wins.

What if our common ground was literally the land beneath our feet? 🌲
"That’s the radical middle: the place where Oregonians may not agree on everything, but still agree on what’s essential. We depend on healthy lands and waters for our livelihoods, our health, our recreation and our sense of place. The fish and wildlife that share this state with us also depend on them."
— Carlos Garcia, The Oregonian
Oregon's story resonates nationally. A great read for anyone who cares about the future of our forests.

Starting in late 2024, the Guild began a technology demonstration project for New Mexico and installed the first AI-enabled wildfire detection camera in the State on Tesuque Peak. This was only made possible through the tremendous efforts of local volunteer Dr. Jonathan Frenzen, funding from the Santa Fe Community Foundation, and strong partnerships with the Greater Santa Fe Fireshed Coalition, the Santa Fe National Forest, Santa Fe - Pojoaque SWCD, The Nature Conservancy of New Mexico, and many others. Through grassroots coordination and fundraising from generous donors at the communities of Monte Serreno, Tesuque Village, and Canyon Road, the second camera in the network is being installed on Picacho Peak. This installation is an off-grid backcountry set-up, and required assistance from Santa Fe Helitack and the Santa Fe Hotshots - Thank You!!! More to come, but for now enjoy these amazing pictures showing teamwork, partnerships, and collaboration in action!
