This one is incredibly important to me, and many thanks to Ryan aka
@primeval.well for trusting my vision for his recent tour merch. Iām behind the full layout of these, the distressing, and the full design of the newspaper (left) sleeve and the back, but this is also the first time that one of my original photographs has been used for a piece of merchāsomething Iām wanting to push more in the coming year with those whose aesthetic aligns with my own. Iām usually focused on rural entropy and decay, but the photograph used for the back print on these was taken during the darkest period of my life in 2024, during a visit with Alex Ford of
@deathbedtapes who along with Bariann of
@fiadhproductions was responsible for seeing me through months of impossibly difficult evenings directly after the cataclysm. Iām alive today because of those two, and I want that in writing here.
The photo in question was taken at a cemetery near Alexās home in Piqua, itself an isolated place by todayās standards. Anyone who knows Alex knows his obsessive love for the Hellraiser franchise, and I suppose he figured this was as good a time as any to tell me about the incredible mausoleum hidden away there simply marked with the rare family name āFlesh.ā Wild story, to be sure, but absolutely true. As horrific as this period was, standing outside of that mausoleum on a frigid winter day, slackjawed at what I was witnessing, is and will remain among the most vibrant memories that I possess.
I hadnāt worked with Ryan in a while and with a new tour coming up, I approached him about the possibility of designing the merch for what was to come for Primeval Well. Thankfully he was open to it, and it didnāt take long for the idea to come into focus. Rather than recount it, Iāll just repost what I sent him in the DM that sold the design for him:
āTennesseeās worst disaster was the Fraterville Mining Disaster in the early 20th century. Iām a big fan of tying lore into real events and blending reality with fiction, and this was a great opportunity to work that magic. I spent a bunch of time tracking down original newspaper clippings from the time and repurposing them for this.(Continued in comments)
