Last weekend, 20 volunteers joined us to clear out some heavy vegetation along the sides of Wildwood Trail, south of Trillium. Due to their efforts, we brushed 0.82 miles of trail! Thank you to all of these volunteers for joining us!
Want to join us? You can find our Events Calendar using the Linktree in our bio. Additionally, National Trails Day is on Saturday, June 6th, and we would love to have you!
Brushing season has begun! Thank you to this group of volunteers for joining us out in Forest Park yesterday. Together, we brushed 1.03 miles of the Wildwood Trail, Cumberland Trail, and Tunnel Trail.
Want to lend us a hand? Our Events Calendar is currently scheduled out through June. You can find our calendar using the Linktree in the bio.
Spring is here, and with it comes a veritable parade of dogs on the trails! We love to see dogs (and their humans) enjoying the parks and the great spring weather. However, despite it being a requirement in Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park, off-leash dogs continue to be one of the top-reported park issues every spring.
Off-leash dogs can pose a safety hazard to park users and other dogs, causing fights, knocking over park users, and more. Additionally, especially now during ground nesting bird season, off-leash dogs can cause considerable impacts to our local ecosystems.
So please, save yourself the fine, be a respectful park user, and bring a leash (and poop bags!) with you before you bring your dog on the trails.
It's time: brushing season begins this week! Every year, we hit the trails in Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park to brush the trails, removing excess spring growth in order to open up the trails.
Due to the large number of park users who frequent these parks, this is a necessary part of our stewardship efforts. Without brushing, our parks would become less accessible and park users, without clear trails, would form social trails, which contribute to trail erosion.
Last year, we covered 51.91 miles of trail, and this year, with your help, we can do it again! The first brushing work party is this Thursday, with more events currently scheduled out through June. Use the Linktree in our bio to find our Events Calendar.
Thanks to a group of 8 volunteers, we cleaned and sharpened all 67 of our weed cutters! Additional thanks to @wjbannister for bringing out his sand belt to help sharpen tools. With our weed cutters prepared, our stewardship team is ready to start the annual brushing season!
If you want to join us on the trails to brush, our first public work party of the season is next week! You can use the Linktree in our bio to find our Events Calendar.
Are you an experienced park goer who wants to help make our parks a more welcoming place? Become a Forest Ambassador!
Ambassadors hike trails and table at trailheads in Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park in order to welcome park users, provide directions, educate the public, and more!
If you want to become an Ambassador, there are two upcoming trainings on Saturday, May 2nd and Wednesday, May 6th. You can find our Events Calendar using the Linktree in our bio.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out last weekend to our annual Earth Day Weekend work parties! We had an amazing group of over 100 volunteers spread across Forest Park and Marquam Nature Park, removing invasive plants and conducting trail maintenance.
Together, we removed invasive English ivy and Himalayan blackberry from ~7,500 sq ft of forest! Additionally, we benched and widened 600 ft of the Wildwood Trail!
Thanks once again to everyone who joined us! If you want to help us out on the trails, our annual brushing season begins next month and we would love to have you!
Thank you as well to the following businesses for supporting our Earth Day work parties:
@gobeyondracing for joining us on the trails and being a business sponsor, @wildwoodcandle_co for donating candles for us to raffle away to volunteers, @voodoodoughnut for providing donuts, and @equalexchange for providing coffee!
As part of our spring fundraiser, you could win two @alaskaair tickets!
Win two round-trip tickets on Alaska Airlines and its Alaska Air Group partners—unlocking access to 140+ destinations across North America, Latin America, Asia, and Europe—all while directly supporting Forest Park Conservancy’s work to protect, restore, and care for the forests that make this place so special.
Only 100 tickets max will be sold. If we sell all 100 tickets, that will bring us right up to our $70,000 spring fundraising goal! The winner will be drawn on May 27th. Get your ticket today using the Linktree in our bio.
Yesterday, we had a team from Pacific Architects and Engineers come out to celebrate Earth Day with us! Together, we braved the Portland drizzle and cleared 1,000 sq feet of ivy off of Wild Cherry Trail. The group was great, and we're very grateful for them coming out for a third year in a row to volunteer with us during Earth Week!
Want to join us for Earth Day Weekend? Our events are filling up fast, but there is still space at our upcoming, family-friendly, spring flowers walk! You can find our Events Calendar using the Linktree in our bio.
Happy Earth Day! We here at FPC love our parks; they are a large part of what makes Portland so special. Our team spends a lot of time and energy caring for Forest Park, Marquam Nature Park, and beyond, but that work wouldn't be possible without you!
That's why today we would like to thank our community for helping us steward and protect these forests. Last year was one of our most successful years to date, thanks to the support of both volunteers and donors. We've accomplished a lot together, and we are excited to see what else we can achieve this year.
If you have the chance, get out onto the trails! Take some time to enjoy these forests that we are so lucky to have right in our backyard, and enjoy the fruits of our collective labor stewarding these public lands. Happy Earth Day, everyone!
