Regional Leaders Arrive in Kenya for the State Funeral of Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga
Several regional leaders have arrived in Nairobi to attend the State Funeral of the late former Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Odinga, at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Tanzania’s Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango and former President Dr. Jakaya Kikwete were among the first dignitaries to arrive. They are accompanied by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohamudu Kombo, and were received at the airport by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for East African Community Affairs, Dr. Caroline Karugu.
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, also arrived in the country for the ceremony and was received by the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale.
Ethiopia’s President, H.E. Taye Atske Selassie, is also in the country for the solemn occasion. He was received by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Ogamba.
The visiting leaders join Kenyans and other dignitaries from across the continent in paying their final respects to Hon. Raila Odinga, a distinguished Statesman, remembered for his decades of public service and commitment to democratic reform in Kenya and Africa.
Following the death of the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, E.G.H, Kenya's foremost statesman, a fearless freedom fighter, and a champion of democracy, representatives from various diplomatic missions based in Nairobi arrived at the Ministry’s Headquarters earlier in the day to sign the condolence book.
Dr. Korir Sing'Oei, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs led members of the Diplomatic Corps for the signing. Amongst those who have signed the condolence book include Mr. Edward Barnett Charge d’ Affaires at the British High Commission; H.E Kang Hyung-Shik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea; H.E. Sebastian Groth, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, General Bacha Debele Buta, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; H.E. Hatem Yousri Hosni, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt; H.E Vivian Nain Kuma, Head of Mission, Cameroon Consulate; and H.E Ms. Siv Cathrine Moe, Ambassador of Norway.
President Ruto Leads the Nation in Paying Last Respects to the Late Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga
Today, on 16th October 2025, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, led the nation in viewing the remains of the late former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, as he lay in state at Kasarani Stadium.
The solemn occasion was attended by His Excellency Prof. Abraham KIthure Kindiki, Deputy President of the Republic; Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary Foreign and Diaspora Affairs; His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, former President; the Speakers of the National Assembly and the Senate; the Chief of the Defence Forces; members of the Cabinet; and senior government officials.
Also present were leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party, where the late Rt. Hon. Odinga served as Party Leader, alongside representatives from across the political divide, the diplomatic corps, and thousands of Kenyans who came to pay their final respects.

He noted that India’s swift assistance and solidarity reflect the warm and long-standing ties.

Kenya and Uganda Deepen Ties with Eight New Bilateral Agreements
Kenya and Uganda have strengthened their longstanding partnership with the signing of eight new bilateral Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) during the official visit of Ugandan President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to Kenya.
The agreements, which build upon 17 existing accords, cover critical sectors including:Tourism, Local development, Mining sector, Fisheries and aquaculture, Agriculture and animal industry, Transport and logistics, Standards and quality assurance and Investment promotion.
In a joint press briefing, President Ruto announced infrastructure projects, including extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Malaba, to improve regional connectivity, along with upgrading the Nairobi–Malaba highway. Initiatives such as the Greater Busia Metro Project and joint measures to combat cross-border smuggling also featured prominently.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening East African Community institutions, addressing non-tariff barriers, and advancing political federation efforts. They also pledged to enhance peace and security collaboration and jointly manage shared resources in the Turkana-Karamoja region.
Kenya will host the midterm review of the Second Joint Ministerial Conference from August 11-13, 2025, to assess progress on these agreements.
Earlier, President Museveni was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, and the Escort of Honour Hon. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, E.G.H. Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs) Development.

A delegation from the Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) led by Dr. Moses Tiffa Baio, Chief Immigration Officer, paid a courtesy call on Amb. Dennis Mburu, Deputy Director General Africa Affairs Directorate.
The delegation is in the country for a fact-finding mission to study Kenya's Immigration system and identify practices that can be transferred by developing a bilateral MOU between agencies of both countries.
The Deputy Director General outlined services rendered by the State Department of Immigration and Citizen Services in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and further welcomed the need for Kenya and Sierra Leone to cooperate on Immigration issues and other bilateral matters.
Kenya and Belgium Reaffirm Bilateral Ties Ahead of Upcoming Political Consultations
The Director General, Political and Diplomatic Affairs, Amb. Josphat K. Maikara, EBS, today, held a courtesy meeting with H.E. Peter Maddens, Ambassador of Belgium to Kenya. The meeting served as a platform to reaffirm longstanding bilateral relations between Kenya and Belgium.
The discussions focused on ongoing efforts geared at deepening bilateral cooperation, including the upcoming Political Consultations between Kenya and Belgium.
