Our Director Simon Morrissey is presenting at PARADOX European Fine Art Forum 2026 at the National College of Art & Design Dublin this week. The first in-person Paradox conference since 2019, the theme of CCC: Connecting + Collaborating + Co-Creating brings together artists, educators, and researchers from across Europe for two dynamic days of talks, workshops, and collective inquiry in Dublin to reflect on the vital role of art and Fine Art education in civic life, critical thinking, and the shaping of democratic and sustainable futures in an increasingly complex world. Simon is presenting a case study with @sophiehayes_artist exploring AFTERMATH, the Foreground project that brought new research by Sophie and their @uwebristol colleague @humamulji into 2 concurrent public exhibitions in Bristol in 2024. They are discussing the rich ways in which the community of practice formed with @fineartsuwe students to realise the project developed experiential learning for undergraduates, created employment opportunities for graduates, and explored how art schools can collaborate with others to directly produce culture in their communities through knowledge exchange. @ncad_dublin @paradoxfineartnetwork @turkuamk @inspiredaub @burrencollegeofart

Delighted to announce that this Friday 23rd January will be the premiere of The Wrong Thing by @bedwyr_williams at 6.30pm @sciencemuseum Imax Theatre, London. All are invited! This significant new film was made as part of Bedwyr’s long-term project Science Fictions, co-commissioned by The Science Museum and Foreground in response to the Science Museum Group Collection moving from London to its new home at the Science and Innovation Park, Wiltshire. The film captures the overwhelming experience of encountering this vast collection whilst imagining the invisible histories of the lives intertwined with the artefacts (through the medium of a grumpy policeman with a lifelong tendency to say The Wrong Thing). If you’d like to join us for the premiere of the film you need to RSVP using the link at the top of our Linktree in the bio. Invite is, however, completely open, so please feel free to bring loved ones, colleagues and friends. You can sign up multiple people in a group with one RSVP. Date: Friday 23 January 2026 Time: Doors open at 18.30 Location: Science Museum Wellcome Wolfson Building, 165 Queen’s Gate, South Kensington, London SW7 5HD Following the screening, Bedwyr Williams will be in-conversation with @casey.raymond and @ewanjonesmorris and there will be an audience Q&A. Drinks and canapés will be served. Please come and join us in London on Friday to celebrate the premiere of Bedwyr’s brilliant new film.

Did you miss Foreground’s inaugural public exhibition in its Document and Location programme this Spring? Aftermath featured new work by artists and Document and Location members Sophie Hayes and Huma Mulji across two concurrent solo exhibitions sited in a former launderette and abandoned restaurant that are now two of Bristol’s newest artist run spaces. The exhibition explored the artists’ shared interest in how the representation of place can be used as a vehicle for the communication of psychological and emotional states. We are delighted to announce that a new documentary film made about Aftermath is now available to view online. The documentary, created by regular Foreground collaborators 2b13 Productions, offers fascinating insights into the production of Aftermath. Interviews with both artists and with Aftermath’s curator, Foreground Director Simon Morrissey, are woven between detailed documentation of the artist’s installations, allowing viewers to learn more about the core ideas and themes at play in the project whilst experiencing the artists’ compelling exhibitions themselves. Watch the new documentary on our YouTube channel via link in bio. #foregroundprojects #documentandlocation #aftermath #sophiehayes #humamulji #bristol #bristolartist #contemporaryart #documentary

Did you miss Foreground’s inaugural public exhibition in its Document and Location programme earlier this Spring? Aftermath featured new work by artists and Document and Location members Sophie Hayes and Huma Mulji across two concurrent solo exhibitions sited in KIT FORM and The Launderette, two of Bristol’s newest artist run spaces. The exhibition explored the artists’ shared interest in how the representation of place can be used as a vehicle for the communication of psychological and emotional states. Hayes’ installation for a former launderette consisted of two related works using sound and photographic images. The first work depicted a nondescript rural fly tip in an unspecified location through two large-scale photographs – the aftermath of illegal waste disposal. Piles of discarded domestic furniture that lie on the left and right-hand side of a dead-end road were split into two images. These images were accompanied by an intrusive abstract audio composition that dominated the viewer and projected a sense of mounting anxiety and trauma into the uneventful rural location in the images. Together, the seemingly disconnected elements of the installation built to suggest the gaps in understanding that result from opposing viewpoints that fail to connect. Recreated as a single screen-based work to share with online audiences, Hayes’ work can now be viewed on our Online page on foregroundprojects.org.uk via link in bio. In addition to Hayes’ arresting new version of her work, you can now view Aftermath (footnotes), a series of letters exchanged between the artists via email that discuss the inspirations, insecurities, pressures and preoccupations that made up the 8 months before the exhibitions, on the Fieldwork page on documentandlocation.org via link in bio. #foregroundprojects #documentandlocation #aftermath #sophiehayes #humamulji #bristol #bristolartist #contemporaryart #photography #experimentalsound

The exhibition explored the artists’ shared interest in how the representation of place can be used as a vehicle for the communication of psychological and emotional states. Colleagues and friends who met in Bristol in 2017 despite coming from very different parts of the world, Hayes and Mulji engaged in an in-depth research dialogue during the making of their new works for Aftermath. This dialogue saw them record the inspirations, insecurities, pressures and preoccupations that made up the 8 months before the exhibitions through candid letters they wrote to each other over email. Originally shared as a screen-based text work at both the gallery sites, the letters between the artists provided their audience with intimate access to the private intellectual and emotional questions that led to Aftermath and were an audience highlight of the exhibitions. The full work can now be viewed on the Fieldwork page on documentandlocation.org via link in bio. In addition to Aftermath (footnotes), you can also view Hayes’ installation for Aftermath, recreated as a screen-based work, now on the Online page on foregroundprojects.org.uk via link in bio. #foregroundprojects #documentandlocation #aftermath #sophiehayes #humamulji #bristol #bristolartist #contemporaryart #letters

Please join us for the Aftermath exhibition tour and discussion, 2pm, this Wednesday 20th March. The linked exhibitions by Sophie Hayes and Huma Mulji explore the artists’ shared interest in how the representation of place can be used as a vehicle for the communication of psychological and emotional states. Aftermath brings together Sophie’s new work - which uses sound to radically author the viewer’s psychological perception of the photographic representation of a mundane location - with Huma’s site-specific installation, that suggests the devastated aftermath of human displacement through sculpture and material intervention. If you’d like to learn more about the project please meet the artists and curator and Foreground Director Simon Morrissey at 2pm this Wednesday 20th March for the Aftermath exhibition tour. We will view the exhibitions together and have an informal discussion/Q&A session, where you can ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere. Please meet for 2pm start at KIT FORM, which is located on the ground floor of Jamaica Street Studios, 39 Jamaica Street, Stokes Croft, Bristol, BS2 8JP. Please note this is an exhibition tour that requires moving between 2 venues 5 minutes apart. It is not a seated event. Event free to all. No booking required. #documentandlocation #foreground #sophiehayes #humamulji #kitform #thelaunderette #contemporaryart #bristolartists #artisttalk #exhibitiontour
