Tom Cruise is my favourite actor, it’s a shame about the xenu stuff. The emotional bandwidth in eyes wide shut was really special, and his stunt work since is the closest thing we have to buster keaton in colour tv. He’s very good at setting boundaries with interviewers, and whether or not that is attached to a grandiose sense of self, it’s been an inspiration for my development as a people pleaser. Toni Colette would come close to being my favourite actor, but sometimes her performances are so good they actually make me feel scared and/or sad. I think Tom Cruise is just good enough to engage me and tell me a story but not make me feel too much that I’m not ready to feel when I’m sitting with shortbread, a @heapsnormal and my laptop 7 inches from my face. I don’t like pitting performers against each other, but it’s nice to have a favourite thing sometimes, it gives me a primary colour sense of simplicity and clarity in a tertiary world of infinite nuance.
