I sat down with @stephbusari for a conversation that moved from the corridors of power to the quiet work of self-reclamation.
I am not often moved by people but I have always quietly admired the way Stephanie goes about her work and really wanted to have this chat, because after years at the peak of global journalism, she reminds me that stepping back doesn’t mean disappearing; it means realizing that not telling one’s own story is a form of self-erasure.
Although this was recorded many weeks ago, the conversation is still so relevant today as we dive into the terrifying silence of modern global leadership: where world leaders are kidnapped from their beds and the “checks and balances” we once relied on have vanished. But we also talk about the light and how to center oneself in all the madness of today’s world.

“The truth is, the hardest challenge I’ve ever faced isn’t a single event, but a mindset I’m still navigating: the realisation that life is not a debt to be paid or a hurdle to be cleared: it is a landscape to be walked. Where the deep valleys are just as essential as the high peaks.
I used to yearn for an easier path, thinking that because I dealt with loss from an early age that somehow it meant that I would be exempt from the rest. Even as a young (or not so young anymore) African, I often felt caught between the exhaustion of fighting for a future that felt out of reach and the void of just giving up. I wasted years with this mindset, rebelling against hardship, feeling like life ‘owed’ me a break, but it did not and It does not.
The thing is over the years, the challenges just…evolve. Even now, I face the quiet grief of watching my parents age, knowing that someday sooner than I would like, I will eventually have to step into their very large shoes.
Today however, I find myself quietly steadily anchored in the understanding that it is futile to fight tides, one must just learn to swim in them. The truth is difficulties, challenges, suffering is really just our resistance to reality. These days I don’t try to “overcome” my life, I simply try to live it. By God’s grace I am learning that living is the ultimate adventure and not because it is easy, but because I have stopped wishing for it to be. There is a strange, steady ease in surrender and acceptance and I am finding that my life is not something to be conquered or overcome, it is a gift to be lived. One day of grace at a time.”

In 2021 we filmed something in the mangrove forest let behind by urbanization: a proof of concept for a larger film.
A story set in a world where our magic was fading in the world but not yet lost. A world in which a few guardians remained who knew how to bend elements to their will. In this world a priestess remained who trained with earth and blood to defend what was left.
It is 2026.
The Last trial is out January 31st.

Jesus is the reason for the season and he arrived humbly but with celebration.
May we always see joy and love in whatever circumstances we find ourselves. May we remember to celebrate and give thanks and gifts for blessings. May we remember to be kind to one another for we never know in what form our salvation might come . May we remember to nurture our families: those we were born into and those we choose for ourselves.
