So I’ve been asked about my mood board a few times so this is a post for photographers, models and stylist. It’s high level and it the complete roadmap but can act as a small guide. Full transparency I’ve been caught shooting and thrown to the wolves / last minute shooting… that won’t happen again. I simply don’t work that way anymore, Why? Because before every shoot I have a mood board prepared and open lines of communication. Of course you want to leave room for creative energy but you need a plan, everyone on set will respect you for being prepared. There is too much on the line with clients to wing it. Hopefully this will help the creatives out there. Earlier this year, I first saw Molie in a @lindsayadler_photo video, and I told myself, “I’m going to photograph her one day!” I didn’t know when, how, or what the concept would be—I just knew I wanted to make it count. I wanted to create an experience where everyone involved could win. That’s how the NYC Portfolio Day was born—bringing together designers, models, stylists, and creatives. When everyone came together, it felt like assembling the Avengers. Organizing and bringing good people together might be my super power. Was struggling with this cause the algorithm says do a carousel with tons of images. Or show the model doing different things. But why can’t this image stand on its own? It had a shape, an emotion and a grade that I finally liked. I might photo dump everything as a cleanse to be honest. Good bad or indifferent… it’s part of the creative process you might as well see it… I’m realizing it’s not like I’m out here curing cancer. None of this should be taken seriously.
