Coming back to Focus Hospital in Ghana after 16 years has been incredibly meaningful. What started as short-term mission trips has grown into a full hospital with trained local surgeons, research programs, and the ability to deliver life-changing care.
Working alongside the team here — and with support from partners like Globus Medical — we’re able to treat patients who are simply waiting for a chance. Many go on to support their families and transform their communities.
This work, and the people here, are a constant reminder of why we do what we do — and why continuing to give back matters.

Our youngest and most challenging case was a three-year-old boy with a congenital kyphotic Deformity. This case involved removing a vertebral segment and correcting the Deformity with a short fusion. This allows for continued growth long-term growth in this child.
This case was the highest risk case of the trip. Fortunately, the patient did exceptionally well after surgery. We interviewed the father who was overcome with gratitude and it filled our hearts.💕
Dr. Smith and Dr. Verma both trained at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. They worked together with the surgeons in Ghana 🇬🇭 for this challenging case.
