Let's talk about why... no, literally.
Navigating life in general has become a task. Navigating the music scene; our passions, our safe space, our lifeline... just shouldn't be. So we are gonna work to make it easier. The Sceneic Route is a brand new series by FM Static Companies & friends. We are going to do our best to keep you informed on all things music above and underground. New music, old friends, challenges we face on/off/behind the stage, places to be, how to connect, when to disconnect, and everything in between. We will feature interviews on the topics you love and all the issues no one else wants to address. Hear perspectives and experiences directly from artists, industry figures, staff, and fans alike. There is nothing the music scene has ever not been capable of. We are and can be the example the world needs on unity, progress, and accountability.
We promise to help you find what you've been looking for. Sometimes, you just have to take The Sceneic Route to get there.

Okay, so, If you’ve seen my photos of The Russian White before today, you know this was probably the most tedious series of photos to get.
Obviously, of not fault to the band or even the venue’s lighting…but this one was hard. Most of these shots are silhouette shots or just hyper dark. That being because most of their set was more backlit from their stage setup as opposed to regular stage lights. It was an amazing setup, but for my Canon it was a challenge. This is one of those bands I really wish I had my Sony at the time.
Anywho, this one is an obvious favorite because it’s probably the clearest most well lit photo I have from them. I had to do a lot of “good timing shots” to capture them and it not be blacked out. But all that aside, I vibe heavy with the dark clothing kinda fading into the scenery and his face and mic hand being the light that breaks through the dark. Again, with that being a standout feature, I feel it draws your attention to the subject. And while that definitely wasn’t the intention when I edited this, it stands as that reflecting on it now.
Despite my earlier bit of nitpicking I really enjoyed the challenge of this set. It took me out of my comfort zone and forced me to play with values a little bit. Now that I have some updated equipment I’d really like to try my hand at it again with them to see how crisp it comes out then.
Thanks for looking!

Back to our regularly schedule totally not in a funk anymore programming.
So last year I caught the entertaining group Atlas at Hold at AAOM fest.
I had a couple solid shots in their set, but this was the one that stood out the most.
It’s my favorite cause the lighting and the expression. The lighting made it to where the original skin tone did shine through but was still very….greeeen. It was bright enough to catch the full figure but dark enough to suit my style.
Also the expression just emits power. Metal vocals always make for super expressive shots and I absolutely love it! Between the stance and overall expression. You can tell just from the photo the music makes you want to swing in the pit haha
Super happy with this one and I’m hoping we can run it back again soon with the updated gear.

Okay so there were a few in the Ruddy Turnstone AAOM archive that I really liked. It was hard to decide which one I liked most, but I ultimately landed on this one.
Main reasons why I like this one is the lighting. The one time red lights didn’t make my life hard haha. As someone who appreciates many mediums when it comes to art, one aspect that really just scratches that itch is rim lighting. The hint of red around most of our subject not only pushes you to the warmer more welcoming tones of the face, but also eludes to a bit of darkness creeping in.
Any Star Wars fan would probably agree with me lol.
Another thing I really enjoy is the facial expression. There’s a hint of weariness, a bit of joy, the excitement of performing and eagerness to do well for not just for himself but for the crowd. As simple as this photo is, I feel it conveys a lot of emotion.
Ruddy is excellent for that. A solid subject for photos if that’s what you like to catch!

It’s not secret that this photo is hands down, to this day, one of my favorite shots
I have screamed from the mountain tops since AAOM Fest 1 that this photo of @jordanxsartor was the equivalent of catching lightning in a bottle.
Reason for this is, despite the dark lighting and I somehow managed to get one of the ✨CLEANEST✨ photos that looks like something ripped from a movie/poster.
Now, surprise, I know very little when it comes to color theory and all that. But the industry standard blue orange color scheme here really made this photo pop. Jordan’s expression added that little bit of extra power to the photo. And some of the little details like the necklace in his mic hand really just tied it all together.
The little canon that could put in the WORK!
If there’s one photo I ever took that puts a stamp on me as a photographer, I’d be content if it was this one.
