As today marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to highlight the important work our team at FMA UK does to help relieve some of the concerns faced by our communities. This month’s newsletter is dedicated to mental health, focusing on breaking down stigma and encouraging open conversations. You can read it here:/signup We also want everyone to know that support is always available. You can reach out and become part of our caring, open, and supportive community in a number of ways. Whether you’re looking for advice, a listening ear, or simply a safe space to connect, our team at FMA UK is here to help. Together, we can break down stigma, encourage honest conversations, and remind one another that no one has to face mental health challenges alone. 💜 #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealthMatters #CommunitySupport #YouAreNotAlone #FMAUK

Today, we’re wishing the very best of luck to two amazing fundraising efforts in support of our charity 💜 🏃‍♂️ Louis will be taking on the Great Bristol Run 10K Fundraising page: /page/louis-hill-2 🏍️ The 46 Crew motorcycle group will also be hitting the road for a special fundraising ride Fundraising page: /page/46fibro26 Both events are happening during Fibromyalgia Awareness Month, whose theme is community, and these incredible fundraisers are a perfect example of what that means. People coming together, supporting one another, raising awareness, and making a difference. Thank you to Louis, the 46 Crew, and everyone supporting them. Your kindness, energy, and commitment mean so much to our charity and the fibromyalgia community. Good luck to you all! We’ll be cheering you on every step (and mile!) of the way 💜 #FibromyalgiaAwareness #StrongerTogether #CommunityMatters

After a lot of thought, the time has come for me to say goodbye to Fibromyalgia Action UK. Working with FMAUK has been an important part of my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences, friendships, and support I’ve had along the way. It’s been a privilege to be part of a community built on understanding, resilience, and compassion. I’ve had the chance to meet and work with some truly amazing people, and I’ll always appreciate the conversations, encouragement, and shared determination to support those living with fibromyalgia. While I’m moving on to a new chapter, I’ll always carry a huge amount of respect and appreciation for FMAUK and this community. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during my time here. Wishing you all the very best for the future. Jason

Our newest Trustee, Vikki Buxton-Helyer, will be on ITV’s This Morning tomorrow talking about how Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust, where she works, has been trialling reptile assisted therapy in one of their hospitals and the benefits they have seen it bring. Vikki’s passion for reptiles came about as a direct result of her developing fibromyalgia several years ago. An enthusiastic animal lover, her dream had always been to move to the country and have lots of animals. Unfortunately when this came about the animals she had envisaged keeping - like horses – were no longer possible for her to manage. But by happy coincidence she discovered a strong bond with reptiles and, after much research and volunteering to check she could physically and knowledgably care for them, she became the custodian of beautiful animals like royal pythons, bearded dragons and geckos. 🐍 After seeing lots of anecdotal stories online about how reptiles were benefitting people’s mental health, she spoke to her trust about trialling reptile therapy sessions, in addition to the mammals patients were already interacting with. This has shown really encouraging results and she will share those in a live interview tomorrow.📺

May is National Walking Month 🚶‍♀️🌿 Walking is a simple, accessible form of movement that can be especially helpful for people living with fibromyalgia. Gentle, regular walks can help ease stiffness, support mood, improve sleep, and boost overall wellbeing, all at a pace that can be adapted to how you’re feeling each day. We’re also sharing our Walk for Fibro campaign 💜 Get involved here: /campaign/walk-for-fibro or see link in bio Our team members Claire, Jason, Lynda, and Moss have committed to walking 30 minutes a day this month to show their support. We're sharing photos from our walks, too! Connecting with the local environment, fresh air, and nature is a powerful reminder of how even small moments outside can support mental and physical wellbeing. Our awareness month theme focuses on bringing people together and strengthening community connections. We aim to increase understanding of fibromyalgia, encourage more involvement, and create space where experiences can be shared and voices heard. Whether you live with fibromyalgia, support someone who does, or are simply interested in learning more, you are part of this community. We want to use this month to share experiences, support one another, and help build greater recognition and understanding, turning awareness into meaningful action together. #FibromyalgiaAwareness #StrongerTogether #CommunityMatters

Day 3 at #BSR2026 — the grand finale ✨ What an incredible closing day at the British Society for Rheumatology conference. We’re leaving feeling inspired, encouraged, and more determined than ever to keep pushing for better awareness, understanding, and care for people living with fibromyalgia. From meaningful conversations to new connections and shared learning, this year’s event has been a powerful reminder of why collaboration across research, clinical practice, and patient voices matters so much. A huge thank you to everyone who engaged with us throughout the conference, your support helps drive real change for the fibromyalgia community 💜 With an even bigger THANK YOU, to our very own Hazel and Allan without you, we would not have been there, and so many of these important conversations would not have been started Until next time, BSR! #Fibromyalgia #FMAUK #BSR2026 #Rheumatology #InvisibleIllness #ChronicPain #Advocacy
