The UK government announced this week that it is set to increase the higher rate of Air Passenger Duty (APD) for private jet passengers by 50% from April 2026. This change was on top of changes to other APD rates.
Currently, the higher rate only applies to jets of 20 tonnes or more that are equipped to seat fewer than 19 passengers – such as the G550 and G650, Challenger 300 or Global 6000.
The government is also consulting on extending the scope of the APD higher rate to all private jets over 5.7 tonnes, regardless of passenger capacity. APD has applied to private jets since April 2013.
What does the APD increase mean for private jet charter flights?
✈️ APD applies to passengers on all flights departing from the UK. The tax is calculated and paid by the aircraft operator, with the cost added to the charter price.
💶 Those most affected by the APD increase will be private jet charter clients travelling on the more luxurious, ultra long-range jets with fewer than 19 passenger seats.

Last week, we celebrated two decades of success with a glittering 20th anniversary extravaganza at Cucumber Bar, Sea Containers, on London’s South Bank.
More than 140 guests from across Europe joined the exclusive event at the spectacular riverside venue, which boasts panoramic views of the River Thames and London’s iconic skyline. Attendees included long-standing partners such as private jet operators, airlines, and fixed-base operators (FBOs).

It was a poignant evening for me personally, celebrating with the suppliers and partners who have been such an important part of our journey, many since the very beginning. Earlier this month we completed a fun-filled 60th birthday charter for a client who wanted to commence his big birthday celebrations in style in the sky!
James Gregory, Head of VIP Charter, organised the charter flight to fly 76 guests from the Harrod Aviation FBO at London Luton Airport to Grosseto Airport in Tuscany, Italy.
Passengers were welcomed on-board with champagne and a selection of pastries for the morning flight, and beautifully designed personalised cotton headrest covers with LX (60 in roman numerals) were placed on the spacious leather seats. James was at Luton Airport on the day to ensure everything was in place and to liaise with the flight crew for an on-time departure.

When a family's chartered flight to New York was grounded in London yesterday due to technical issues with the operator they had booked with, they faced a 20-hour delay. That’s when Matt, our Head of Charter, got the call.
