I get asked a lot where people can go for sustainable seafood, and if I’m answering for Portland crowd,I’ll say y’all are lucky, with easy access to the goods thanks to
@flyingfishpdx - it’s quite the gem and your one stop shop for seafood.
This is pretty much a go to stop for me when I’m in the city, because (A) I can’t get enough sustainable seafood even when I leave the coast and (B) Chef Erik, Lyf, and the team here are so generous and sweet and doing things so right!!
This place isn’t just an incredible restaurant and good hang out spot, but it’s also an amazing seafood market!! They have seasonal seafood, from fish to oysters to seaweed, and it’s coming from all over the region. Their fish mongers can tell you what’s special about each item, exactly where it came from, and exactly how it was harvested. You know it’s extra special when they can tell you the names of the fisherman behind the products… true traceability right there!
Here’s what we ordered, all food paired perfectly with our springy Ginger and Pear Margharitas!
Jjamppong - Korean Noodle Soup with mussels and clams and also full of veggies like bok choy and shiitakes! The wheat noodles were fresh and seasoned with spicy dashi, sesame-chive oil and scallions.
Fried Fish Tacos with wild PNW Rockfish, Pickled Onion, Pickled Jalapenos, Cotija. Cabbage, Crema, Cilantro
Grilled Fish Sondwich (I’m a big fan of a fish sando) Sustainably Raised Washington Steelhead Fillet, Fresh Herb Aioli, Citrus Cilantro Slaw, Ciabatta Bun
DO NOT SLEEP on
@Flyingfishpdx - and if it’s already one of your favs, good on ya… tell us what your go to order is in the comments!!
