This past Friday, Flux helped manage the Second Annual International Jazz Day Awards presented by Cityfest. It was evening of celebration featuring Dave Schiff, on Tenor Saxophone and the Clifford Brown Festival Orchestra.
We honored the legacy of Harold L. Schiff "Hal" and the 2022 award winners with a night of phenomenal jazz. Organizations, individuals or a venue can be nominated for an award such as the Clifford Brown Legacy Award, C.B. Advocacy, Volunteerism and Philanthropy in Jazz Award, C.B. Young & Swinging Award and the C.B. Top Jazz Presenter Award.
Proceeds from the Clifford Brown Year Round Series supports programs like these and we are grateful we could help be apart of another great awards ceremony!

This past December, Flux was hired to manage Teach for America's10th anniversary celebration in Wilmington, Delaware. After planning for an in-person fundraising event, TFA now needed to pivot the celebration to an all virtual audience.
We have worked with a variety of institutions to reimagine events that were conceived as in person experiences into hybrid or virtual and as TFA looked to translate this event into a digital space, it had the opportunity to surprise and delight stakeholders by upholding a high standard of experience.
Flux was able to manage the event holistically, pulling together the many separate elements of a virtual production into one signature piece. And to make the event even more special for viewers, we put together swag bags with TFA custom printed items!

On March 25th, Flux helped manage another Clifford Brown Year Round Series performance called 'New Generations, New Works, New Experiences'. Some of responsibilities included ticketing & managing the box office, facilitating & writing vendor/artist contracts, designing & printing programs and live-streaming the event.
We had performances by Chien Chien Lu Quartet, Horizon Quartet and U.S.E. Trio. All three bands put on an amazing show and it proved to be a beautiful night for the arts in Wilmington, DE.
Flux is currently working on the next upcoming performance in April and we look forward to having even more people show out for a night of great music!

On Friday February 18th as a part of the Clifford Brown Year Round Series, Cityfest presented a concert called "How Do You Sing Love?" with the help of Flux. Some of the many responsibilities we had included booking the artists, facilitating & writing contracts, designing & printing programs, and managing tickets & registration.
Singing acts included Maya Belardo, Nadjah Nicole, Jea Street, Sharon Sable, Shawn E. Qaissuanee, V. Shayne Frederick, Darnell Miller, Hannah Carter, and group Love N Sol.
Flux has extensive experience running these types of events and will be managing several other Clifford Brown Year Round Series performances in the near future and beyond.

We’d like to welcome event manager Traci Currie to our supporters and potential clients! Traci manages both in person and virtual events for Flux.
Jamaican American literary artist Traci Currie has focused a portion of her career in the academy, specifically 20 years in the midwest pursuing degrees in communication, film, and media studies and teaching African American literature and communication courses. Traci’s poetry performances often address social challenges in culturally specific communities, as well as creating inclusive spaces for underrepresented voices. As a literary artist, she creates an engaging space that allows audience members to participate in the 'power of PLAY.' She currently works with youth as the Program Director for Cityfest Arts Work and an Artist Resident for Poetry Out Loud in addition to managing a variety of in-person and virtual events for Flux.

One of the ways Flux has expanded in the past year is in our ability to film and livestream in-house. For this shoot we brought in one of our @datavideo PTC-140 HD PTZ robotic cameras, a lavalier mic, and our Production Manager to capture short interviews that will be used by @decontemporary to publicize some of their programming. Flux offers a basic film set-up that keeps costs low and production manageable.

This past November, Flux helped bring MBDance to Wilmington, DE for a unique dance performance of Desire: A Sankofa Dream. Founded in 2009 by Maria Bauman, @mbdancesweatyourtruth centers on the non-linear/linear stories as well as the bodies of queer people of color onstage, using dance as the wheel whose spokes are multiple other genres including visual art, text, and song. This performance is a site-responsive, immersive performance-ritual built around Black Queer survival techniques such as place-claiming and world-building. It presupposes a world wherein our ancestors are unicorns who have come back to remind humans of our possibilities and agency.
One of Flux's many strengths includes staying in the know on cutting edge art performances such as this and bringing them to the Wilmington, DE area. Our essential duties for this project included travel accommodations, site set up/breakdown, and complete involvement in creating a smooth process for 2 successful performances.

Flux came onboard with the team at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota to help re-envision a signature fundraising event—Avant Garden. This past year, with the Covid-19 pandemic still impacting in-person events, the fundraiser needed to adapt.
Flux met with the staff and planning teams and created a report of possible hybrid event solutions. As master event translators, Flux envisioned a vibrant at-home/walk-through event that preserved the essence and atmosphere of the anchor event in a safe and socially distant way.

We'd like to welcome Beverly Zimmermann to the Flux family as she has already been a huge addition to the team! After graduating from Alexis I. du Pont High School and the University of Delaware, Bev moved to Orange County, California to work for Ocean Pacific Sunwear. Following her time at OP, she returned to Wilmington where she was appointed to the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs for 12 years; Helping to coordinate the City's Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, the Riverfront Blues Festival, Independence Day celebration, First Night Wilmington, Art on the Town and opening/operating Theatre N at Nemours. She then went to work as the Director of Administration of the Grand Opera House until 2018.
Bev was appointed to the State of Delaware’s Real Estate Commission in 2020 representing the City of Wilmington, and in 2021 she was appointed to the Delaware State Arts Council. She works in Special Projects for Out & About Magazine and continues to coordinate the Art Loop in conjunction with the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs.
