The Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) and Flux Factory are excited to announce the first artists selected to participate in the Regional Artist Mobility Program (RAMP), a new initiative to strengthen inter-regional exchange between U.S. artists by supporting professional development, facilitating creative dialogue and building cooperation among artists from different regions. This Residency exchange will culminate in November 2026 with an exhibition for our fellows at CIAโs Reinberger Gallery.
Two CIA faculty artistsโinterdisciplinary artist and designer Rachel Ferber, an assistant professor in the Foundation program for first-year students, and painter Mike Meier, an assistant professor in the Painting programโwill spend six weeks with Flux in May and June 2026. Two Flux Factory community artistsโtextile artist and designer Itala Aguilera and interdisciplinary artist and former actor Li-Ming Hu โ will spend six weeks in residence at CIA in September and October 2026.
Last chance to see ๐๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐จ & ๐พ๐ค๐ฃ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐ ๐โจ closing reception tonight at 4 pm!
๐๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐จ & ๐พ๐ค๐ฃ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐ is an ongoing experimental time-negotiating kitchen laboratory by Kosmologym (Walker Tufts & Greg Stewart). It contrasts two human attempts to alter the flow of time. In the kitchen, we freeze, dehydrate, and pickle foods to remove them from their usual cycle of decay. In contrast, we freeze and thaw concrete to simulate the passage of entire seasons in a single day ๐ชจ
Take for example, ๐๐ฆ๐ช๐๐/๐พ๐ก๐ค๐๐ ๐พ๐ก๐ค๐๐ ๐จ (image 1)โthe Belmnitella americana was an ancient cephalopod, relative to the ancestors of todayโs squids. This fossil is from New Jersey. The carbon from a specific Belmnitella fossil found in the Pee Dee River in South Carolina was used to determine the 0 value for the delta scale used in relative isotope-ratio measurements of carbon. Measuring changing ratios of Carbon12 and Carbon13 isotopes can also help us understand the ratio of carbon in the atmosphere to that in the ocean. The Belmnitella biomineralized the calcium carbonate through a similar process to how S. pasteurii makes bioconcrete.
Quartz wall clock: a frequency reference is at the core of every clock. A pendulum completes a swing once a second, a quartz crystal (silicone dioxide) cut into a tiny tuning fork, vibrates 32,768 times per second. The quartz crystal is piezoelectric and so not only vibrates but also produces an electrical charge, which drives the clock hands more accurately than a pendulum.

๐๐ง๐๐จ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ: ๐๐๐จ๐๐ ๐พ๐๐จ
Pasha Cas arrives in a space where the European myth of freedom has been materialized and transformed into a symbol of American identity. By exploring the urban environment, monuments, and people, the artist seeks historical parallels and ruptures between promise and reality, between the myth and its contemporary interpretation.
Using his own body as a tool for artistic expression, he embeds himself into the cityโs public and symbolic spaces. In these โgestures,โ the temporary is juxtaposed with the eternal, and the personal with the monumental. The artist analyzes how myths and symbols created to affirm freedom lose their clarity and conviction over time, lingering in the space between relevance and the loss of meaning.
The starting point of this exploration is the phrase โGive me liberty, or give me death!โ the political slogan delivered by Patrick Henry at a convention to gather support for a revolutionary break from England, which subsequently became a myth. This phrase was never recorded in writing and has reached us through oral tradition, making it fluid, changeable, and dependent on context. Over time, it has transformed, adapting to the era, ideology, and political climate.
