We took the clapper to the next level 👏
This install is our biggest and most complex art piece we’ve done for a private residence 🏠
It's a custom 15 foot tall LED tree for a large living room 🌳
This was one of the few projects where the design process actually took longer than fabrication - over 4 months. One of the hardest things to get right was designing around the fireplace in the middle of the room, and having the installation be serviceable in such a tight space. We had to get every detail just right for such an intimate setting ✨
Rather than offering a control system with a phone or computer, we broke out controls into a midi controller for the client, essentially making a custom light switch that could control color, animation, speed and more 🎛️
Monos Makeover ! Collab with lighting company @fluoraplant - who makes these glorious color change LED lamps 😍 Fuzzy woolen moss covers all the straight lines, creating negative spaces reminiscent of a lava lamp.. I have one more of these glowing boxes to play with - any suggestions or ideas on how to transform this other glow cube? What would you create ?? ✨️

They don't call it burn in testing for nothing
LEDs are fragile creatures. Many little things can cause an LED to malfunction. Naturally, there are some industry standard ways to test this.
One of those is called “burn in testing”. This is a stress test that our LED manufacturers put through their LEDs right after they are made, and involves running them at full brightness for 48+ hours. This test is for catching “infant mortality” defects - failures due to manufacturing flaws or faulty soldering.
We've also developed some internal LED testing methods. When we’re doing custom art installations, after the physical and electrical setup is done, we typically play back a basic “test pattern” on our system that cycles between Red, Green, Blue and White. This individual tests each diode within each LED, and the white tests the combination of all 3 of them together. This allows us to start electrically debugging our systems.
Our on site installation teams have spent many nights fixing minor wiring issues and soldering cables or connections under the bright lights of this test pattern.
With Fluora, we had to design a custom LED testing system for the entire manufacturing process. That involved individually testing each component that’s made, and also the entire system as a whole, and the software that is loaded onto the Fluora PCBs.
Music Festivals are the inspiration 💫
Some of our favorite behind the scenes footage from 3 years of art installations at Electric Forest Music Festivals.
We designed, fabricated and installed an LED Flower Garden installation, and an LED Cloud Room - both attached to the Dream Emporium inside the festival - probably one of the most fun & whimsical places on earth. It’s a place where people can explore, play, and feel free to let their imaginations run wild.
Our whole team was drawn to make LED Art for a living after having amazing experiences at festivals like this, to be able to attend festivals and eventually make art for them is a dream come true!
These days, we can sometimes get caught up in the business side of things - fixing issues with our Fluora products and Art Installations, client communications, customer service and deadlines. Getting to attend and create for music festivals lets us relax and get back to the roots of why we started making LED Art in the first place!
