It took 720 of man hours to create this beautiful lehenga on delicate Khadi India silk fabric (certified) with intricate and detailed embroidery embellishments of mixed materials like gota, dori, dabka, zari, sitara, sequin, nug, cheed, pearl beads, resham, salma, nakshi, etc..
irrespective of regular zardosi, which is irritating to skin, this ‘Gutha Gota ‘ technique is more neatly and intricately crafted, and has longer lifespan (sustainable) easy care ( perfect for this generation brides) skin friendly, light weighted comparatively, and strongly binding to base fabric with cotton yarn.
This art of technique is 7times more time taking, as it has multiple stitches in very close distance giving it better finish and strength ( thus giving better lifespan, even after years and years you will find the same lustre in your lehenga as new)
In zardosi one line has two stitches, one on each end, thats the reason it frays while Gutha embroidery has more than 10 stitches in same distance of line.
There are 100s of hand embroidery techniques in India, and most of them are long lost. Many of them are even more intricate and old craft than zardosi. But, because of less exposure these heritage artisans, which have been crafting these since generations are shifting to modern and fusion work of zardosi and the technique is not getting passed on to new generation
Zardosi comes from influence of Persia in India and was accepted by Kings and Queens as one of the beautiful arts. But, the sad part is, Indian are forgetting original Arts itself that are heart of India.
How many Indian arts of Indian of embroidery/prints/dye/painting, do you know? And how many of them, you have in your wardrobe?
