Decided to bring my private practice back onto social media 🤲🏽 💫
To reintroduce myself - hi, I’m Irina :) I’m a neuroscience student + artist turned massage therapist who is passionate about functional movement, easing chronic pain patterns, injury rehab, and nervous system integration.
I’m working out what kind of presence I’d like to have online, as most of my marketing is done through word-of-mouth and community events.
Stick around for a diary of sorts; insights on what I’m learning each day as I work with clients, tips for caring for your own body, reflections on manual therapy as community care.. the list goes on <3
I’m moving to a new studio soon, excited to share more photos of the space :)

༺ MY APPROACH TO MASSAGE THERAPY ༻
More than momentary relaxation,
my approach is a trauma-informed practice
rooted in anatomy, biomechanics,
traditional wisdom & clinical research
to treat pain holistically.
It delivers measurable improvements in mobility, structural alignment, & quality of life
through active & passive stretches, myofascial work & Thai-style rhythmic compressions.
It is mindful listening;
to the subtle cues of your muscles & fascia,
to the ebb and flow of your breath.
It helps you regulate your nervous system & enhances your body’s natural healing abilities, with gentle Cranialsacral techniques that remind your body of what safety feels like.
It is a collaborative dance
between giver and receiver,
attunement to your unique rhythm.
After each session
you’ll feel attuned,
more flexible,
pain softened,
range expanded,
& mind calm;
building your resilience for daily life.
Come as you are.
Share your story,
& let’s work together to bring you
back to balance
with skill and compassion.

Doing it all with grace ✨
After each client walks out, I start my tasks; changing out sheets, resetting the room, writing SOAP notes, eating food, hydrating, taking a bathroom break, and (if the weather is nice) getting some sunny toes-in-grass time.
That mini recharge before jumping into another hour or two of hands-on work is crucial. That’s why I prefer scheduling 30 minute breaks in between clients… even so, those 30 minutes fly by fast!
Some spa chains give therapists only 5 minutes to turn their room over and be ready; no wonder their therapists burn out so quickly.

In the flow ✨
Sometimes you need slow, relaxing touch to settle your nervous system. Regulation is important before we try to do any deep therapeutic work 🤍

As a therapist, one of the most important skills I’ve developed (& am still developing) is tending to my body & emotional state - concisely and effectively.
I’ve found that when my body is aching, my mindfulness and ability to hold space for others is diminished.
A perfect example: I woke up cranky for this early-morning outcall. I was tired, in pain, & emotionally sensitive.
I took 10 minutes before my first client to do some movement & self-massage.
Shakes, heel drops, yawning, backbends on my table, tapping, scalp tugs/massage, lymphatic drainage, stretches, noting what’s floating in my mental space, etc.
I let my body move, focus on where tension is sticking, and find creative ways to address it.
To my dancers, healers, athletes, caretakers, parents: how do you tend to yourself?
Grateful for this little corner of Boulder where I did my work for the past year ✨🌱
I’ll be moving to another office across the street, and as I packed up my supplies I did some reflecting on this first year of working as an LMT.
The main thought is that places of healing are sacred. They are spaces in which some of our deepest physical, emotional and spiritual wounds are addressed, grief and other emotions are processed, and steps are taken towards healing. Energy is transmuted.
These places don’t have to look like a hospital or therapy office. Any space that is routinely/ritually used for healing carries a special energy. This can be a blanket on a patch of grass, a chair in the kitchen, a spot on the dance floor.
This year has also made me sharply aware of the contrast between my material conditions to that of other healthcare providers around the world.
Thinking of our healthcare workers & healers who have limited or purposefully restricted supplies, are targeted in their places of work, face systemic violence, apartheid, discrimination and more. & despite facing such difficulties, they continue to show up for their communities to provide care - even putting their lives on the line.
What does our commitment to each others’ health look like here in the US? How can I address someone else’s pain if I’m missing critical pieces of context? In what additional areas must I educate myself to build a deeper empathy for other peoples’ lived experiences?
If you have any thoughts you’re welcome to share :)
