We took over Central because we thought it was important to the skateboarding community and to the Benson community. To be perfectly honest, we had no idea what we were doing or what it would look like.
A month or so before the re-opening, we took a trip down to New Orleans and visited @humiditynola skate shop. I had been following them and what they were doing from afar as a lot of skaters in the entire country do.
Laura and I went in there 2 days in a row and they were nice enough to chat with us for probably like an hour each day. What they do in the quarter is pretty much exactly what I wanted this skate shop to look like. The community relationships, the collabs with their neighbors, and the feeling like you’re a part of something, just from walking in the front door. @flowershardware is owned by Torrey who’s been with Humidity for a while. If you follow them, you’ve surely seen him in their posts.
Anyways… SUPER HAPPY to be bringing FLOWERS hardware to Omaha! He’s got some dope shirts and gear too. I’m stealing one of these totes for myself.
My dream is to earn the kind of respect from my communities that these guys have from theirs. If it looks like I might be copying anything that they do, it’s because I am.
