Still decompressing. Still glowing. Still in awe that this even happened. Like seriously I’m kinda Shelbyshocked rn at just how magical goth prom was. This post is gonna be sappy asf but I need to give proper shout outs to everybody who made this a reality.
When I stumbled into the DC DIY party scene in January 2024, I had no idea how deeply it would change me. Yes, my first party was
@danceclub.link MAl party lmao. Thank you
@whatifitwasanya for taking to my first party. I’m forever grateful.
It felt like walking through a portal — a foggy, sweaty, joy-drenched portal. A space where people were actually dancing. Where you could breathe. Where the music wasn’t just background — it was the reason we were all there. And no one cared what you were wearing (but also, everyone looked amazing). It was the first time I felt held by a crowd in a way I could never imagine.
It blew my mind. Not just the party, but the values behind it — community over profit. Creativity over conformity. People protecting each other, creating together, showing up for one another.
I kept going out. Kept talking on the patio. Kept meeting artists, organizers, weirdos, sweethearts, soul shakers. And eventually I realized: these people throwing the parties? All passionate people with day jobs, messy lives, and deep wells of creativity.
So I decided to throw Goth Prom. The prom we never got to have — but always should have. Dark, dreamy, subversive, romantic, a little unhinged. With fog and synths and eyeliner and over the top decoration and of course, so many flowers.
Endless thanks to everyone who brought this night to life — the DJs who transported us, the drag artists who pushed through tech hiccups and turned it out, the painter of vibes, the vendor dressing alt baddies, and my decor dream team. I couldn’t have done it without you.
To everyone who danced, kissed, cried, posed, stared wistfully at the fog machine… you made this night real. You are the magic.
More soon. But for now, I’m resting. Still in my corset. Still glowing. Still dreaming of what’s next. 🖤
