Introducing Dahlias & Poppies in Barrel (DPB). This design began as the continuation of my Mother's Day card theme with the peach poppies and pink/red/violet dahlias that I have used each year since my original Mother's Day design in 2023. When I start a new piece, I assemble a collage of images that inspire me or have an element I want to study and perhaps include in my new design. The second image shows my collage for DPB: barrels used as vases that I referenced (found on the internet), the picture of an Odilon painting that I took at the Art Institute of Chicago, and several shots of dahlias from my garden. The next pictures show my process from rough sketch to inked outline that I colorize with specially blended inks. The butterflies are created separately and photoshopped into the design.
