✨ OCT 14th in NYC ✨
Japanese calligraphy “shodo” live performance with piano improvisation.
We’re excited to showcase a unique pairing of dynamic sensibilities and storytelling. The live performance of calligraphy and music is an expression of poetry– through a visual trace of time, movement, and emotion.
Hailing from Japan, the master calligrapher @rierihaku will use large brushes to write selected characters of the season on the walls in her live performance, while Ayaka Matsui interacts with each stroke and meaning behind the characters and improvises on the piano.
RSVP link in bio! Hope to see you there 🤍
COME JOIN US TOMORROW!

“Why do we create? Because we feel. And we want others to feel.”
When AI can generate art, why do we exist?
I’ve been asking this question to myself over the past decade or so, ever since Deepmind-powered art (do you remember those?!) started popping up in my daily life in San Francisco about 10 years ago. We’ve come such a long way since then, but the question still is here and more prevalent. AI is certainly powerful, and transforming our creative work/play.
It’s a privilege that we feel. And we get to transmute these emotions to tell stories. That’s how we connect deep within ourselves and to others, heal ourselves and each other, by feeling and releasing our emotions. I love exploring and sharing this magical power of music.
It was so much fun live scoring to @harleycortez ‘s film essay with @andybaldwin77 at the closing reception yesterday. The theme evolved around immigration and coyote as a symbol of a creator in South American culture etc. I always love learning about ancestral cultures and rituals from different parts of the world— there is a lot of wisdom that is still relevant in the modern society we live in. 🕊️ Art is one of the most powerful ways to tell these cultural stories. Special thanks to Harley and Andy for the collab 🤗
When the world is chaotic,
we find calmness in structure and order.
Visiting the zen temple, originally built almost 700 years ago, I felt such strong connection with nature. 🍃
Within the thoughtful structure, it felt like the architecture was built to harmonize with the nature. From every part of the temple, I felt the wind caressing against my skin, heard the birds sing and trees chattered and saw the surrounding beautiful zen gardens.
Apparently the temple was given the land 1,000 years ago. It’s wild to imagine, what the land has held as a sacred place for the last millennial. The architect of this 700 year-old temple is not known and obviously not “award-winning” or anything, but they knew, the secret to well-being is let nature be part of the structure and our life. 😌🎹

Meditation and creative session at Gokuraku-ji, a zen temple that is about 700 years old.
You could almost feel the weight of history, while admiring the courtyard garden.
The intentional architectural design incorporates nature be part of your experience wherever you are in the temple. You feel the wind blowing from one window to another on the other side, have the open view of the trees in the garden from all the rooms. The thoughtfully designed structure feels natural and comfortable, making you feel at ease and in flow.
The serenity inspired me to find my inner rhythm and harmony. Swipe to take a listen to what came out 🤍🎹
Thank you @hossantensan for leading us through the zazen meditation and hosting us 🙏☺️

Shinrin-yoku experience in the City. We brought the forest from the UK to the middle of New York City. Co-creating harmony with the nature through cello and piano improvisation.
Shinrin-yoku (English: forest bathing) is a Japanese ritual where you immerse yourself in deep nature and connect with the nature spirits and ourselves. It’s a beautiful practice to harmonize with the nature within us and finding our own rhythm, while creating harmony with our environment and everyone around us.
Come check out our next Shinrin-yoku performance next Friday 9/27 at @lumestudios for Subjective Art Festival🍃 Link in bio ✨
