Tattoos are really important to me as a disabled person. Being a medically complex person can feel like I don’t really own my body. It’s rare for someone to have such visible tumors on their skin. In medical spaces people pay a lot of attention to my weird body. I don’t want my tumors to be the only thing people notice. Tattoos look cool BUT they also give me control and agency over my body and identity. Image Description: 1 - Text follows the curve of taylors Arm “Tattoos & Disability: Taking back ownership of my body” The tattoo shown is a bunch of lavender, Pansies and carnations. 2 - “My body is covered in scars, MY body is covered in scars, tumours, marks or disfigurements. I did not ask for any of them. They were put there by doctors, harsh environments and genetics. My body is not my own” An image shows Taylors back. They are white and have an old scar along their spine and a tumor across their hip and torso. Their back bends awkwardly to the side. Below this image, text reads “Tattoos allow me to scar my own body and make permanent changes that I want. I can research and use artists I trust. I take back ownership” A close up of Taylors arm shows a raccoon Tattoo and part of a floral one. 3 - Two photos show more tattoos. A polaroid camera with a trans flag sits on taylors shoulder, while a rendition of Van Gogh’s starry night is on their arm. Surgeries and medical treatment are traumatic. The scars they leave are permanent reminders etched in my skin. Tattoos can have a lot of meaning; but they can also just be silly and fun. Tattoos give me the chance to NOT take my body seriously. They give people something else to point and ask about. Tags: #Tattoo #Disabled #BodyPositivity #BodyNeutrality #Disfigurement #Disability

So once again, resident doctors in the UK are going on strike. I hate how the media and gov try to use the idea of people like me to demonise doctors for wanting safe working conditions, fair pay and job security. We know more than most how broken the system is and how much it needs fixing. The strike may be scary - especially if you are one of the few people who do have appointments postponed - but we have to remember who caused this. Fuck Wes Streeting. Fuck privatisation. Fuck Labour. #NHS #DoctorsStrike #WesStreeting #Labour #VoteGreen #disabled Text from images: The media likes to platform people who oppose the strikes. It’s framed as being unfair and dangerous - the doctors are demonised for putting patients at risk. Some even say they should be completely banned from striking. I can see why they think that. I know how devastating and dangerous delaying treatment can be. The good news? It is 100% avoidable. Doctors are striking because: They are overworked and underpaid. With inflation, their pay has gone down by 21% compared to 2009. They train for years and are not getting jobs at the end. The government offered a pay rise that wasn’t enough. When they refused and asked for more; the government punished them by taking new jobs away. A strike might be an extreme response; but asking nicely did NOT work. Doctors should have every right to strike. Their strikes are no more dangerous than a chronically underfunded, and understaffed healthcare service. So instead of telling doctors not to strike, we need to demand the government to end the strike by paying them better. We patients want them to have jobs after their training. We patients want a free and functioning healthcare service, and for that we need something to change. I support the strike, I just wish it wasn’t necessary.

Today is trans Day of Visibility. I wanted to say how we are always visible, but I know that’s not true. We face discrimination and erasure on a daily basis and many of us are forced to hide or be our true selves. I feel like more and more of the “visibility” we get is just inflammatory media debate about bathrooms and if we even deserve to live. “Trans people of all ages have existed through all ages” is a quote from a postcard I got by @Frocktopus back in 2022. The quote really resonates with me. Trans people have always existed regardless of the laws, culture or political climate and we will always exist. Image description: Text made of cut out and collages letters from newspapers and magazines. Text reads “Trans people of all ages have existed through all ages”. @Flottacat is in the bottom corner. # Happy international women's day to all women (and cis women) lol Jokes aside, trans women are not a separate category. They ARE women. It’s weird to say “women and trans women” because it suggests that trans women cannot be included in with the other “women”. Image description: Large text reads “Happy international women's day to all women (& cis women)”. The text is blue and pink, and sits on a blue newsprint background. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD #TransWomenAreWomen

As a disabled person I really hate all of the “access card” type schemes. They put access behind a paywall, play into the disability fakers narrative and often have narrow or abstract criteria to get them. A lot of the time, they put up barriers that they are supposed to break down. We are expected to pay money, give private info to private companies who will judge if we deserve to be included in spaces or events. When a venue decides that only disabled people with a certain card are allowed, disabled people are forced to pay or be excluded. Yes, disabled people of ALL variations will have people not believe them - but are plastic cards really the solution? The cards reinforce the idea that you should be sceptical of disabled people, and you should ask them to prove it. The cards reinforce the idea that all disabled people are on benefits and that those NOT on benefits aren’t disabled. We are expected to be grateful, and told its a good deal because even if we pay £15-20 we are still “saving money”. So yeah - I hate all of the access/disability cards. Today, many Trans people In Kansas woke up to letters stating that their drivers licenses have been invalidated if the sex on their licenses did not reflect their sex at birth. I don’t have the energy to make a big post explaining why this is bad or what the impact is. Here is a blackout poem I made based on the letter. For anyone who can’t read it on screen: Dear Kansas, Senate requires Kansas-issued sex at birth to comply does this mean you? you received this notice that, you will no longer be valid. Additionally, you will be subject penalties if you are operating a new gender/sex not assigned at birth, surrender your current gender consistent with statutory requirements, you have no rights, no validity and authority. please apologize for the inconvenience. Image description: 1 - A distressed paper background contains a official letter. Most of the words have been redacted with dark, blocky shapes, leaving only a few words visible which forms the ‘black out poem’. @Flottacat is in the corner. 2 - A distressed paper background contains a official letter. This is the same as the previous slide, but rather than it being blocked out only the chosen words remain on a white background. @Flottacat is in the corner. 3 - A Copy of the actual letter sent out to the trans people in Kansas. It has multiple paragraphs of text, and official logo and addresses. @Flottacat is in the corner. Tags: #Trans #Kansas #Transphobia #Pride #BlackoutPoem

February is Rare disease month. It is supposed to raise awareness and get people talking about rare diseases. All voices are valid however not all experiences are the same. Some people with Rare diseases still have more privilege than others, and some are frequently left out of the conversation. With my own conditions, I face many issues that others with the same dx as don’t - such as comorbid scoliosis. My case is very complex and I have significant complications due to my NF. But I do also have privilege in the sense that my specific subtype of NF is the more common one. I also have the privilege of living in a country with free healthcare and access to specialists. My point is: no 2 rare disease sufferers are the same and there isn’t a ‘universal’ experience. Here are some reminders for #RareDiseaseMonth. Image description: 1 - Dark blue text on a light blue background “Reminders for Rare Disease Month” post by @flottacat 2 - Dark blue text on a light blue background. “Not all rare disease sufferers have the same rarity” Even if you have the same rare disease; some people will experience much rarer symptoms and comorbidities. These may be ignored in awareness posts that focus more on the ‘more common’ side of rare. NF1 affects approx 1 in 3,500. Of those with NF1, only 5–10% also have Scoliosis. 3 - Dark pink text on a light pink background.Prevalence of subtypes/related conditions can vary a lot. When multiple conditions belong to the same group, the rarity of each sub type or condition can vary a huge amount. **Neurofibromatosis Conditions:** NF1 affects approx 1 in 3,500. **NF2-related** schwannomatosis affects approx 1 in 33,000. schwannomatosis 1 in 40,000 to 1 in 1.7 million people * limited data. This zine is adapted from some of my previous Instagram post and talks about how the binary categories of invisible invisible disabilities can be inaccurate and sometimes harmful. The zine comes in 2 sizes: with A6 or A7 pages sizes. They are fully designed, printed and folded by me! I can post within the UK (Excluding NI). I can post internationally, but NOT to EU or EEA countries or the USA. I’m really happy with how the zine turned out so please check out my Etsy: FlottacatArt. Video description: The clip opens with a video drawing 2 circles into separate boxes. Each circle is labeled “visible” or “invisible”. Below this, a new diagram shows the circles overlapping and forming a venn diagram, which blurs the lines between visible and invisible. A new category is labeled as “everything in between”. The video then shows Taylor digitally designing, printing and folding an 8-page zine in their studio. They briefly show off the finished booklet as well as screenshots of Etsy and instagram. The video has captions for all spoken words. End of description. #Zine #InvisibleDisability #Disabled #WheelchairUser #Artist #Crip
