Honored to share the official trailer for📮The Missing Post Office 漂流郵便局, finalist at
@cannesindieshortsawards . Huge congratulations for their win to
@bgproudfoot and
@breakwaterstudios for the fantastic “The Final Copy of Ilon Specht”, and to all the filmmakers in the lineup, including
@kitsuney and
@arnaud_delmarle .
This project was made quietly, one camera, one day on Awashima, natural light, real letters, real people. Seeing it in cinemas around the world and this weekend in Cannes is a gift. A personal film gathering so many unexpected awards and recognition, this is the best job in the world.
Post production is where the film found its shape, frame by frame. I went on with my trusted crew at
@ellipse.tv . Cut by the excellent
@florian__julia , assisted by
@leo.ayralguzzo , protecting silences and editing like a listener, finding rhythm where it was needed. Original score by Thomas
@lesonmaison , a restrained palette that serves the story. Sound design and mix by
@jc_h.o.m.e , a careful architecture of details that makes you feel on Awashima. Colored by
@_leoterreros matching the island’s atmosphere.
To my lovely producers, post producers and artists friends at
@tbwa.else , who have been of huge help with making the film possible.
We kept the film grammar simple, long takes, minimal coverage, edited with precision and care. Every choice pointed to the same compass, keep what is human and honor the universal side of a very Japanese story.
Thank you to the people who opened doors and hearts in Mitoyo and on Awashima, and to everyone who carried this film farther than we imagined. The response in festivals has been humbling. Seeing audiences connect with a story this small and this sincere is the best kind of confirmation.
