‘Rule of Thumb’ opens this Friday 15 May, 6-9pm, at SET Lewisham. Co-curated by the four participating artists, working across painting, sculpture, and installation, the exhibition examines how power is naturalised through physical presence. Taking its title from the idiom “rule of thumb” - a phrase denoting approximate measurement famously, if controversially, historically linked to a legal loophole for domestic violence - the works explore how authority is mapped onto the body within domestic and institutional spheres. 📎 Learn more via link in bio Details Public opening event: Friday 15 May, 6-9pm Dates: 14-18 May Weekend hours: Saturday & Sunday, 12-5pm Weekday hours: Thursday, Friday & Monday (By appointment) Location: SET Lewisham, Unit 1, Lewisham Retail Park, SE13 7RZ Admission: Free The exhibition is also viewable by appointment on weekdays. Please contact: [email protected] Contributing artists: @emiliaauersperg Jiyoung Pyo @phoebe.randall @florencesweeney This exhibition is presented as part of SET’s Associate Members Programme, which offers early-career and underrepresented artists with studio space, project spaces and opportunities to independently curate public-facing exhibitions, workshops, and events. I haven’t had the heart to post on IG as we’re watching horrors unfold in real time. I can’t be bothered to give you my 2025 wrapped showing off small plates and fits from Vinted. But you do you. My head and my heart are in different places but I think soon they will come together. Because we all want to make a difference in the end, right?

🧭 KM 0 offers space to bring studio processes into dialogue — here we focus on the work of in-house artist Florence Sweeney. Florence engages with personal history through acts of care, intimacy and exposure. In Chamber (2025), a soft, anatomically rendered heart rests within a hand-made wooden case, evoking both protection and containment. The accompanying video work 7AM (2025) shows the artist holding and gently caressing a small, red, glittering fabric heart — a family heirloom — filmed in a quiet, domestic moment. The two works physically interlock, fitting together like a shoebox, suggesting the closeness of memory, body and object. 1. Portraits by Carmen Gray 2. Epiphanies – Chamber & 7AM, 2025 — fabric, flock, American walnut, LCD screen 3. Side view of Epiphanies – Chamber & 7AM 4. Video of artist combining works into a shoebox 5. Photo by Carmen Gray
