Congratulations to my baby sis and her boo 💐
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
The Ashtanga Secondary Series (Nadi Shodhana) builds on the foundation of Primary by working on strength, opening the heart and promoting the free flow of prana (life force). Nadi Shodhana means nerve cleansing, and it’s designed to deepen physical and mental practice by clearing energy channels (nadis), rebalancing the nervous system and increasing spinal flexibility through deep backbends. Each posture prepares you for the next, working from the root chakra all the way up to the crown chakra in a powerful series of asana.

The purpose of the Ashtanga Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa) is to detoxify and strengthen the body through a sequence of forward bending, twisting and hip opening postures.
As a beginner, you start with sun salutations and a small section of the standing asana. When your teacher sees that you’re ready, they add more, gradually building up to the whole series. Ideally it’s practised six days a week, in the morning (Mysore style). But you can adapt it to your ability or needs, if you’re short on time, for example.
You can practise on your own at home, or in a space with others – everyone moving at their own pace and doing the same sequence to varying levels. Relying largely on muscle memory and following the breath, it becomes a moving meditation, bringing you into your body and out of your mind. It can help you to observe the fluctuations in your mental and physical state, day by day and even moment by moment – ideally making you more conscious of how you act and think.
