I used to panic when people didn’t have the same beliefs as me as if it threatened my own survival. Maybe it’s controversial and obviously nuanced but what helps me more and more is seeing life is an experiment. When someone has totally different beliefs to me, they’re not wrong, they’re just doing a different version of life to me. That’s what they’re choosing to experience and everyone get’s to play the game however they want. (Of course that gets REALLY complicated when it comes to dark and painful scenarios and making choices that affect whole communities/populations.) I’m certainly not saying that passivity is the answer. But thinking I know what’s best for the entire world is completely delusional 😂. It’s a relief to know I don’t have the answers. This song is about accepting of other people as they are and in turn, accepting yourself. And how you have WAY more impact and inspire greater change by being wholly, fully YOU.

I'm off out tonight to photograph the @friendsofthedart Atlantean Ball at Totnes Civic Hall as part of their We Are The Water weekend, raising money for the conservation of our beloved river Dart 🧜♂️🌊💙

Ironically I won't actually be home for Christmas as I'm looking after some really gorgeous dogs and it might end up being my first Christmas alone ever! 😮
BUT I have been enjoying learning some of the Christmas songs that I haven't played yet for a gig this Sunday at the Monks Retreat Devon. (Starts at 4.30pm if you're interested)
I've also been finding Christmas very emotional this year! It really gets me when people sing together- I weep. There's something extremely special and important- even essential about it. So maybe I'll just spend Christmas day watching Christmas films sobbing whilst I cuddle dogs 😂 it doesn't actually sound like a bad time to me!

In a bed of summer snow from the poplar trees in Regent's park this beautiful moment was made.
It touched my heart deeply and reminded me of the power of music.
Recently I've been delving into the importance of doing what you love. From somewhere- maybe societal conditioning or my own B.S beliefs, there's always been a doubt in my mind if music is really THAT important.
Even though I feel it so ESSENTIAL in my whole being, there's this niggling, condescending inner voice that says 'yeah but... it's not really that valuable is it...'
BUT when I question that voice and belief then it becomes clear: ANYTHING you do with love, is the most valuable contribution you can make to this world, surely!?
Anyway, this was another reminder of that and I'm so grateful to have met @mamut_rei that day and that he asked me to play this gorgeous song all about love that holds such an important memory.

Why be anyone else- other than incredible, one of a kind YOU?!
These lyrics came out of a session I did with a beautiful friend and neighbour whilst I was living in a little clay house neighbourhood in Portugal.
The message was strong. I'd become undeniably tangled in my relationship to the point where I couldn't see what was mine and what was his. Subconscious patterns and ancient obligations that we had no idea about were playing out making us lose our minds- and most of all, connection to our TRUE selves.
When my friend repeated the words 'You are you, YOU are YOU' with so much passion and conviction it didn't leave me. It became like a mantra that when I was writing this song- Dependency, they naturally found their way in.
So if you happen to find yourself in a sticky situation, this is your reminder... to come back home to yourself.

Ouch. When you've spent hours, months, years working so much, believing it's possible to change the pattern and have a healthy relationship. When you're so attached to being with THIS person because when it's good, it feels like a f*ckin fairytale, but when it's bad it feels like game over, the entire world comes crashing down.
What a ride for the nervous system! 'I'm safe and in love- oh wait no now I might die- no wait this is home, safety- omg nope definitely going to die- panic'
Phew. And I chose that situation for soo long- because choosing something else felt wrong, felt more unsafe (so I thought) and meant I would have to feel the pain of really grieving the loss.
But I'm glad I did. Because neither of us were getting out of there alive! 🤦♀️ we would have continued destroying what little safety and love we had left because we couldn't see clearly at all- completely caught up in the dynamic.
And yes, it was painful and yes I'm so grateful I chose it because it also gave me freedom from the stress, the unsafe, unpredictable emotional environment and lead me to have greater perspective and where I am now. So if you're there, or you've been there- I get it. And I send you some love. 💜

This music is just me sharing honestly my experience. I don't really try and make it be anything other than what it is. I don't edit much, I don't try and 'write a catchy hook' or necessarily structure in a conventional way. The emotion and story guide the writing. Honesty is the most important thing for me and I'm grateful that it communicates.
