🔥Vallivan is out!🔥 New single and video by @floatingsofaquartet and @dreamerscircus ✨ The two Nordic Folk bands shared a creative day together with sound engineer and producer Louise Nipper in Copenhagen in the fall of 2024.The single track Vallivan is a great example of an “effective” melody, with very few notes put together to maximize the outcome! The traditional ballad Vallivan can be found in several different versions all over the Nordic countries, however this particular “dance-version” was constructed by Danish folk music legend Leif Varmark based on traditional sources. Mads learned the tune directly from Leif at a ballad course many years ago, and introduced the melody to Dreamers’ Circus when guesting their band at a gig. As both FSQ and Dreamers’ Circus share a deep love for traditional nordic music they decided to record a version og this great melody together. The intro is sung by the voice of teacher Just Poulsen (recorded in Copenhagen in 1933). The traditional melody is arranged by Floating Sofa Quartet and Dreamers’ Circus together. Das Floating Sofa Quartet (FSQ) ist eine musikalische Zusammenarbeit zwischen vier jungen Folk-Musiker*innen aus Dänemark, Finnland und Schweden. Seit einem Jahrzehnt arbeitet FSQ grenzüberschreitend mit ihrer eigenen Interpretation nordischer Volksmusik – sie beleuchten das gemeinsame kulturelle Erbe der nordischen Länder und schaffen Musik, die ihre Traditionen bewahrt und gleichzeitig erneuert. Seit der Veröffentlichung ihres Debütalbums The Moon We Watch is the Same im Jahr 2016 hat FSQ für jede ihrer Veröffentlichungen verschiedene kreative Wege beschritten, z. B. das preisgekrönte Neighbourhood (2019), das sich ausschließlich traditionellen Melodien widmet, das Gemeinschaftsprojekt Sofa Songs (2023) mit einigen der besten nordischen Sänger*innen und Songwriter und Kystnært (2024), ein weiterer Deep Dive in das traditionelle Repertoire der nordischen Länder zusammen mit der norwegischen Geigerin Guro Kvifte Nesheim. Das neueste Album von FSQ, Tides (2025), feiert das 10-jährige Jubiläum der Band und stellt erneut ihre eigenen Kompositionen in den Vordergrund. Als renommierte Live-Band hat FSQ das Publikum mit ihrer pan-nordischen Volksmusik begeistert und sich durch ihren unverwechselbaren Sound und ihre mitreißende Bühnenpräsenz einen Namen gemacht. Die Band tourte ausgiebig durch Dänemark, Schweden, Finnland, Norwegen, Deutschland, Österreich, Belgien und die Niederlande und trat bei renommierten Festivals wie dem Kaustinen Folk Music Festival [FI], dem Førdefestivalen [NO], dem Tønder Festival [DK], dem Korrö Folkmusikfestival [SE] und dem folkBALTICA [DE] auf.
