Some specters still haunt us… Friday evening in the chapel of @hfg_offenbach (fitting venue!) the first design debate of @gestalt_error_409 took place. “Design Thinking is Dead… finally? sadly?” . A debate as a séance, that revealed: Design Thinking is not dead. It’s a specter. And specters – as Derrida pointed out – are most powerful precisely because they are neither fully present nor fully gone. They operate in the in-between. You conjure them even as you claim to exorcise them. . Whoever speaks today about human-centered design, about user research, about divergent thinking, about divergent thinking… speaks in the language of Design Thinking. The hype might be fading. Its inheritance doesn’t. Even though it’s not neutral. Design Thinking arrived with a neoliberal grammar build in: the assumption that complex social and political contradictions, aka problems, could be decomposed into solvable design briefs. . A question that stays with me is the possibility of turning that creative ritual of 5 steps against its own premises: democratizing the method as a tool that shifts attention from output to process, and treats that process as a site of creative agency for everyone. . #gestalterror409 #wdc2026 #designthinking #designmeme
