Look at this lemon meringue cake I made. Look at his swoops that could be charitably described as “abstract”. Look at all six (6!) layers delicately balanced atop one another. Look at the neon yellow lemon curd peeking through. Look at that nice toasty torchwork on the outside. Okay that’s all, you can keep scrolling now.

Two years ago, I set out in the pursuit of a goal both arbitrary and meaningless: to create a complete visual meta-alphabet. Twenty-six meditations on a single letter. And thus Alphabet Quasi-Monthly, America’s most obscure publication, was born. 132,648 words (!) and 481 footnotes (!!) later, Volume 1 is complete, from arms to zucchini.
Thank you to everyone who subscribed sight unseen, who sent a text or DM or email to say that something I wrote made them laugh or feel or think, who gave me their own thoughts and words to publish. Thanks most of all to my intrepid co-editor @nutbeak for laying out every issue, for his clever microfiction, and his inexhaustible patience during each cover shoot.
I learned something important during this project, and I’m going to tell it to you now for free. If you feel like there’s something missing in your life, here’s what you need to do:
1. Make something.
2. Hold it in your hands.
3. Give it away.
4. Repeat steps one through three.
And so, in the spirit of both Brian McKnight and Vince Carter, I will now say: I got one more in me. Volume 2 is coming soon. Subscribers, stay tuned. Lurkers, get on board. DM me your address to see what it’s all about.
And also: SMASH that like button if you got a kick out of the zine. COMMENT if you had a favorite article or cover. And WRITE IN if you want to get published.
I’ve primarily spent the last six quasi-months delicately arranging both small and large objects. Only three letters remain: Will we pull it off? Will the next issue really be “Oops! All Xylophones”? Does anyone want approximately 75 unused cocktail umbrellas? All will be revealed in time—don’t touch that dial. And as always, DM your mailing address to get on board before it’s too late.
