Here’s a video of me folding all the attempts to perfect the fit of the ‘box leg’ trouser - the first release under my new label, Watercolour.
Some added context for what’s been going on leading to this point:
I moved to Melbourne in April 2024 with the goal of structuring my life in a way that would allow me more opportunity to turn ideas in my head into physical things and make a living from it.
Two years in, I’ve dipped a toe in & out of formal fashion studies, fumbled a few side ventures, navigated a mild brain injury (look mum no hands), have been exchanging driving lessons for patternmaking services, and continue to work at the local fabric store - where I’ve met so many great people making a living doing exactly what I want to do.
Somewhere along the way, creating an independent label emerged as the clearest path forward to meeting my goal.
An ensuing period of experimentation was outlined to further learn & develop my garment designing - unencumbered by the impending transition into business.
Early on in my creation vacation my focus was snagged by a single design: a pant, born out of a gap in my own wardrobe, that became an unintentional seven-month-long study of the pant vs the human body.
With the perfect fit always one tweak away - one prototype became two, and over the course of several months, two turned into 21. (See video).
What I took from this process:
1. Perfection is an illusion
2. Figuring stuff out on your own has real value, but reaching out for legitimate advice can rapidly move parts of the process along - leaving room to focus on other aspects, design-related or otherwise. Still finding the balance between abstract expression and the objectively functional demands of the craft.

Each print is signed and numbered.
This print features an illustration I did last year in an abandoned hotel just outside of Granada [Spain].
Various forms of this particular character evolved over the course of the trip, with this rendition being the final ‘public’ artwork.
This specific illustration is a product of a significantly insignificant series of moments of very little space between thought and action.
A pivotal moment in my mindset toward drawing and remains a benchmark of ‘being’ that I continue to strive for.
The character has been meshed with a repeated hand drawn pattern for the final outcome of this print. A story for another day.
