I tried to emulate specific music genres through each portrait, and these are some of my favourites from my punk-themed photoshoot. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This series utilises generative AI conceptually (on slide 3) to criticise its attempts to replace real art - read the caption for more info. ⚠️ • This series of three mixed-media digital collages - inspired for Jeannie Baker’s “Window” - tells a tale of urbanisation. Beginning with the human tendency to dream and innovate, an “idealised” update to a grassy landscape is overlaid as an architectural development sketch. The elements of this composition are intended to be natural - a simple untouched landscape combined with a hand-drawn sketch and text. In the next collage, a view of the - now built - development is seen from a window framed by curtains. The buildings look underwhelming compared to the initial plans, but at least they’re colourful and still framed by trees! The window and curtains are a vector graphic - demonstrating the evolution from traditional sketch to digital line-work. The final collage is a mess of sloppy and soulless AI graphics. The overly saturated city may initially look normal, but its artificiality becomes more obvious upon further examination. The same applies to the lifeless apartment window that the city can be seen from. Even the plant pot in the corner is an AI creation. Another new medium explored in uni - texture art. Unfortunately I didn’t get to learn 3D modelling, but got a crash course in the basics of texture maps/painting (and the anatomy of a skateboard) and applied it to this model for my final assignment. I used Photoshop and stock imagery to create the grip tape and deck art, and Adobe Substance Painter for the rest. This project marks my first foray into pixel art. Inspired by one of my favourite albums - “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” by My Chemical Romance, its music videos, and the companion comics written by Gerard Way, this platformer is the culmination of 40+ hours of work. It was a painstaking process - recreating props and settings from the “Na Na Na” music video and two animated sprites of Gerard Way’s character “Party Poison”, importing them into game development software GDevelop, and creating a simple platformer. But no matter how rough it may look, I am exceedingly proud of how these assets - and the project as a whole - came out.
