Ive been listening to the Blight album by @theantlers a lot while I work lately. I think they did an incredible job of putting to words and music a sort snapshot of the world today. It’s a convicting album to listen to. The message hits home of how are we treating this planet and each other. As far as surfboards go I’m stoked that there are people like Jack at @verduresurf really pushing forward more sustainable options that still perform with his @flexframe.tech . It’s always made sense to me to build boards from natural materials, not just because they are nice to work with and are light on the environment. But because there mechanical properties (light, flexible, good rebound) are beneficial for high performance surfing when incorporated correctly. It occurred to me recently that the use of these materials is often perceived as a marketing gimmick and I can totally understand why. After 10 years of R+D we finally have a construction that we think is worth sharing with the greater shaping community. When I was 13 our teacher asked us to write our own report cards. My mate Benito took the opportunity to highlight how good of a human he is, making claims like “Beni is the best student I’ve ever had” and “I want my kids to grow up and be just like Benito” When this email came through the other day it reminded me of Benito’s report card. (So ridiculously positive that it sounds like we wrote it ourselves) In reality it’s the result of 10 years and a huge capital investment in research and development. Working with some of the best surfers in the world, listening to their feedback and tweaking the product accordingly until we had something really special. We call it @flexframe_technology and we are so excited to share it with surfers and shapers all over the world.
