SCL CHORAL WORKSHOP | Part 2
Nox Aeterna (Candela Brevis)
My first foray into SATB choir.
Had the privilege, alongside arranger Aleph Cervo, and 7 other composers (including friends Annette Johnson and David Das), to be invited to participate in the SCL Choral Workshop in the Moroccan Room of the legendary Village Studios, where 32 amazing singers (you may not have heard their names, but you've heard them sing in Hollywood films and elsewhere) performed our works with feedback from Emmy-award winning contractor and choral director Fletcher Sheridan. Thank you to composers Esin Aydingoz, Marie Kingsley, Kia Knoester, and the SCL for making this happen.
The seminar preceding the workshop covered the basics of writing for an SATB choir, covering range vs. tessitura, vowels matching dynamics, writing for vocals in a way that remains distinct from other parts of an orchestra, etc. Selected SCL members had the chance to briefly workshop their pieces with direct feedback.

Conducting the debut of this piece was bliss. Mark was a collaborator and dear friend to many. The world is a little darker now without his light. His legacy lives on through the music he gave us, and the uncountable number of lives he brought joy to.

Are you working on a piece for choir and want to hear part of it? A choral cue that the temp choir can't pull off? We're offering the opportunity to submit compositions to be sung by a choir of LA's finest. In the spirit of community building, there will also be a break between sessions to meet and network with other singers and composers.
The SCL is proud to present Composer Workshop: Choral Read-Through. Please submit music you have written and be prepared to present and discuss it.
