Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Runshaw College as part of their Constructive Futures program to our @cottonworkswigan site. Another step in their education of the construction industry.
The day featured an insightful site tour with Lee, talks on apprenticeships, and discussions on project design. We were thrilled to showcase the exciting development at Cotton Works and the vast opportunities within the construction field.
A big thank you to Stuart Hide from Runshaw College, and Natalie and Jenny from Constructive Futures for helping bridge the gap in the industry and for their ongoing work with students across the UK. Their efforts are truly shaping the future of construction.

This bespoke production and Regional Headquarters Facility for an international ‘food and beverage’ company comprises 27,500sqm of contemporary office pavilion, production plant and distribution facility.
Sitting in the Peak District National Park this building had to respond to its context whilst providing the client with an operational manufacturing process plant. Whilst the building was completed in 2012 it remains timeless in its design and execution of works. It serves as an excellent example that quality design does not have to be expensive.
Achieving a BREEAM rating of ‘Outstanding’, the design has been praised by the client and local community as making a major commercial and environmental contribution to Buxton.

Clerkenwell Road, London; another Fletcher-Rae project that demonstrates the practice' diverse portfolio and delivery skills. Nestled in amongst several Listed Buildings and with multiple adjacent occupancies this exciting 212 Bed 4* Hotel (now occupied by Yotel) with retail and leisure facilities, together with five luxury rooftop apartments, was a real challenge from a design and delivery perspective. With numerous 'Third Party' conditions to overcome, a multi-level basement to construct and working within the confines of the Clerkenwell Heritage / Conservation Area the design (in association with Stephen Reinke Architects) needed to be a sympathetic insertion into the existing vibrant street pattern. Beautiful, glazed bricks provide a fabulous contemporary façade treatment, that both respect the adjacent buildings and tie everything together seamlessly.
Fletcher-Rae is pleased to have helped secure planning consent on behalf of Kingmoor Park Properties, Carlisle for a new bespoke 62,286sqft Logistics Distribution Facility for Parcel Operator DPD on the Kingmoor Park Enterprise Zone. It is hoped work will commence on site soon.
This has been a great team effort and is hopefully the first of many new buildings on a wider Kingmoor Park estate.
Fletcher-Rae is proud to have been appointed by 'The Heaton Group' to develop master-plan proposals for the regeneration of the former Eckersley Mills complex on the edge of Wigan Town Centre. This new destination 'local quarter' will involve significant redevelopment and conservation of a number of Listed Buildings on this approximately 17 acres site. Bounded by the Leeds Liverpool Canal and Wigan Pier to the north and River Douglas to the south the redevelopment will be a true 'mixed-use' scheme offering residential, retirement living, commercial offices, food halls, events facility, hotel, leisure, local amenities, employment, new public piazza and extensive public realm and landscaping.
Careful conversion of two of the existing mills will preserve part of the town's historic heritage whilst providing new commercial offices, food and beverage, micro-brewery, leisure and residential accommodation. Coupled with sympathetic restoration and integration of other buildings on the site, new public realm and landscaping will see a new hotel and leisure facilities nestled in amongst new build high quality residential apartments, retirement living, and employment uses.
This ambitious project is at an early design development stage with ongoing research and discussion under wat with many key stakeholders. It is hoped that works can start on this exciting project later this year.
