Fifteen years ago, I was three days from launching my first Dallas Flea pop up market. Would people show up? Did I make a big mistake? Do people really think I know how to host and operate a flea market?!!! The short answer: People did show up, it was one of the best decisions of my life and I didn’t know how to run a flea market but I figured it out with time, failures and perseverance. To say I’m grateful for this community is such an understatement. Without y’all, Flea Style doesn’t exist. It’s just that simple. Thank you for all the love, support, pep talks and gentle pushes to keep me and our team moving forward and more excited than ever to grow and build our business - and reach more amazing people like you. One of the highlights of writing How to Style a Hat? Selecting the stories, tips and tricks to light up each page. Even though the book is a fun guide, it's deeply personal too. I couldn't leave out Yanick, a friend of 20 years and our first Frisco employee! She's been here since we opened The Original Hat Bar at The Star and was by my side as I hung the art, accessorized the tables and put the first hats on display. Over the years, she's become one of our most talented hat stylists. If you've made a hat with Yanick, you know her signature knot. It's an extra long fabric band snuggly wrapped and twisted around the hat's crown (twice!) with a bohemian, textural touch. I love it so much, I named it after her over the years and added it to our book's knots section. How to Style a Hat is about telling our story through the hats we wear. Nobody does this better than George, a Fort Worth native who I met in Round Top while shopping the fields for our stores. I ran into him recently and showed him the page where his beautiful hat shines bright. He teared up with joy when he saw his signature cap packed with pins collected over his lifetime. He was so happy, he invited me for a margarita that night to toast this special moment. This book has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
