Please email Lawrence City Commissioners ([email protected]) to show your support for trails!
On Tuesday, May 19, the Lawrence City Commission will review the draft 2027-2031 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The draft plan calls for the construction of only ONE trail (likely the downtown section of the Lawrence Loop) between now and 2031.
FLAT calls on the city to include plans to finish all 3 gaps in the Lawrence Loop and include other proposed trail projects like a Cameron’s Bluff access trail and the Atchison Creek Bikeway (connecting Clinton Parkway to Bob Billings).
Please join FLAT in asking the Commission to continue to recognize trails as a high priority for our community! Email the Commission and consider attending Tuesday’s Commission Meeting at City Hall (6 E. 6th Street) at 5:45pm.
You're invited to the first meeting for the Looped Together Mural Project, a community-based effort to create a new mural along the Lawrence Loop. Muralist Dave Loewenstein will share a short presentation about his work and how our project will unfold followed by a brainstorming session to generate ideas for the mural design.
We'll be meeting at the eastside brewery building, 1927 Moodie Rd., where the mural will be painted. No experience is necessary. All ages are welcome. There will be snacks 🙂

More info on the Loop Closure at south Iowa St. and K-10. We reached out to the City and were told "The City noted the closure in our Weekly Traffic Update for March 20. This closure is in effect yesterday. With this being a project from the Kansas Department of Transportation, we do not have a clear date for when this work will end. We will send additional communications about the trail reopening when we learn more from the KDOT. "
We also went out to have a look. The Loop is closed from the east side of Iowa at the Crown Auto Dealership and going west from Iowa at the theaters with a detour going north on the east side of Iowa then crossing Iowa at 34th St, continuing north on the west side of Iowa street to 31st St. The detour continues along 31st St to the Kasold Curve where the detour ends.
To restate, the Loop segment that is closed is part of the Loop Route 5 and it is closed from the Kasold Curve to Iowa St.
