TLDR; A BEAUTIFUL PLACE, EP out now! Link in bio, run it up, you know how di ting does go
I actually wrote most of these songs 3-4 years ago. At the time, I was thinking a lot about growing up and constantly hearing people say ‘it must be so beautiful there!’ when I told them that my family was from Trinidad. It certainly is, but I think there’s so much more to appreciate about a place than just its beauty—there are real people and lives and complicated historical legacies there, and I can love all of that as much as I love the beauty of it.
I was also thinking a lot about calypso, indentured servitude, post-independence, migration, religious conversion, stick fighting, etc., etc, and pulling lyrically and musically from both my Indo- and Afro-Caribbean heritages. it’s been a joy to revisit these tracks with the approach of the wonderful contemporary punk/alt/hardcore scene I’ve been blessed to be a part.
Proud to say it’s 100% self produced, but wouldn’t be possible without the help of some lovely friends
