After a brilliant party last August in the beautiful surrounds of Goleen Eco Resort in west Cork, Shane Johnson and Colm Motherway are teaming up with Matt and the crew again this summer for a weekend of music and dancing. From July 17th to 19th, this beautiful natural setting will resound to great music from a wide selection of DJs, alongside live performances from JarJarJr and Bantum. Camping will be available onsite and delicious food and drinks will be served throughout the weekend. It will be a small but perfectly formed gathering so spaces are very limited. Tickets are available from the Goleen Eco Resort website. Link in bio.
Back in October 2022 Charles and Shane played an extended back to back sunset session at the Wolfkop Weekender in Cistrusdal, South Africa. (Soundcloud link to all 4+ hours in bio). Charles Webster has been a constant, ahem, presence in Cork for the last three decades. His records have fired imaginations and filled dancefloors around the city and beyond and we’ve hosted his DJ sets many times in various venues - from Sir Henry’s in the 1990s to Fast Eddies in the 2000s, from a brilliant live set at our Electric Picnic birthday takeover in 2008 to more recent all day parties in Connolly’s. 🎟️ ON SALE THURSDAY 16 APRIL, 10am
Pioneering house DJ, musician and producer Charles Webster joins Shane Johnson of Fish Go Deep at Savoy on 16th May!
Charles webster started making music at 15 in Sheffield electronic bands, moving to Nottingham in 1984 he started working in studios, writing tracks for emerging hip-hop outfit The Rock City Crew, then with early techno/house bods T Cut F. He went on to work in studios with Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. Started DJ’ing in clubs like Nottingham’s Garage, Barracuda, Eden and Venus.
His involvement with the underground sound system scene led to the birth of the Love From San Francisco label. Charles explains, “One phone call was enough. I was out there and six twelve inches later I’m still out there, so to speak, in between regular visits to Europe to record, DJ, remix and feed the cat.” On return to Britain in 1995 started “REMOTE”, a kind of a British, San Franciscan label concentrating on deep, funky, atmospheric grooves: “a label too watch” said all!
Webster has dj’d in many many many countries; nominated by ledgendary dj harri (sub club) as favorite dj in ‘DJ magazine’ top 100, toured relentlesly with Presence all over the place through 1999, taking the Presence sound on stage with a full live band. Presence album 11 out of 10 in ‘DJ’ mag, album of the month in just about all the others , uk and worldwide; album selling well ( over 50,000 ), 2 top 75 singles in uk chart, singles and album voted best of year in lot’s of mags, single ‘sense of danger’ now top 10 in billboard clubchart in USA.
We had a lovely chat with Bill Brewster recently for his brilliant DJ History podcast. Covered pretty much all the bases, from the 80s Cork city music scene to tales of Sir Henry’s in the 90s and on to touring and producing over the last twenty years. Many thanks for having us Bill. Link in bio.
Ask The Artist with Fish Go Deep — Live today at 16:00 CET
@fishgodeeper are back on OpenLab with a brand new selection for our Ask The Artist series, fresh off the release of their latest EP, “Love’s Cloth”:
“All of the music I chose for today’s program has an Irish connection. Some of it is by artists we’ve collaborated with over the years, and all of it is by artists who have inspired me during that time. Sometimes I think we can overlook the amazing music that’s made right on our own doorstep, and selecting tracks for this show was a nice way to revisit and refresh some local musical memories.”
Listen via OpenLab.fm or on 106.4 FM in Ibiza!
Early bird tickets are sold out but you can still get down Saturday night at the Savoy. Shane with the music, Tracey at the mic. General tickets on sale on Eventbrite. Link in bio.
Way back in 2005 we released our debut album, Lil’ Hand, with Tracey K. The lead single, Battery Man, was a club hit and went on to become an enduring favourite on Irish dancefloors. The follow up, The Cure and the Cause, was brilliantly remixed by Dennis Ferrer, licensed by Defected Records and, well, you probably know the rest.
To mark the two decades since the release of Lil’ Hand, we’ve revisited the album’s closing track, Love’s Cloth, framing Tracey’s beautiful vocal in a very different light and emphasising the rich harmonies of the chorus.
The dub version ventures deep into the shadows, with ripping synth stabs and dislocated vocal fragments swapping turns over a deep, driving rhythm. It's already had lovely praise and plays from loads of great DJs and it's now available wherever you get your music... links in bio. We'd love for you to check it out.
