NYU First Gen Student of Color

Hi everyone! We wanted to introduce a new organization at NYU Silver, called First-Gen Students of Color! Our mission statement: We First Gen Students of Color are here to raise visibility to the first generation experience of BIPOC folks in higher academia. We intend to expand accessibility and resources to first gen students of color to and within NYU Silver through student life engagement, networking opportunities with alums, as well as through campus community building. We want to offer a brave space for first generation students of color to connect and share their narratives throughout their years at NYU and we hope to be a new community of support to the current and for the future first generation students to come. Know Your Rights Workshop 📝 📍1 Washington Sq N (student lounge) ⏰ April 2 5:00-7:00pm * food will be provided! * NEXT WEDNESDAY we will be hosting a “Know Your Rights” workshop!! This is a collaboration with Unlocal, Latinx Social Work Student Organization, NYU Silver Office of Career & Professional Development, and Inclusive Engagement & Student Life. The workshop will cover the basics of the U.S. Immigration system and current trends. Now more than ever, is this knowledge critical to our field. Catered for social work students, the workshop will allow for students to begin expanding their knowledge and advocacy skills. Students are encouraged to bring their questions to engage in a rich discussion about social work and immigration. Please RSVP with the link below by April 1st to secure your spot. We know midterms are a stressful time for a lot of us and we want to allow the opportunity to decompress and bring back some joy before spring break!🦋 Join us, @nyusilverusga and @firstgensoc as we have a screening of 6 triple 8, color, and snack tomorrow, March 18th from 5-8 in the student lounge. Self care is critical to midterm season! 🧘🧠 We have collaborate with @nyu.blackcare and @nyusilverusga to host a mindfulness event where we will be watching Netflix’s The Six Triple Eight, eat yummy food, and do other de-stressing activities. 📍1 N Washington Sq (student lounge) ⏰ 5:00pm-8:00pm FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED!
