A huge shout out to my parents for raising kids in a country that doesn’t want them. My parents were teen parents, under paid and often times not treated fairly but never complained, in fact they appreciated the opportunity to work and they always woke up with a smile on their face looking forward to provide for my siblings and I. Their only request was for us to appreciate the opportunities this country has to offer (education) and to never forget where our roots come from 🇲🇽. My father always told us that our Education was something no one can take away from us.
A couple years later…. All their 5 children graduated from Middle School, High School, and College.
Seeing our last sibling walk the stage was a special moment for us. A huge shout out to our God, our ancestors, and all those that have been part of our journey.

Being a first gen college grad I focused on the accomplishment itself and never really prioritized capturing the moment. So for those approaching graduation this year! Don't be like me and skip out on graduation pictures, buy them. I am so glad almost a decade later they were able to pull them out of the archive file and I finally purchased them!
I know first hand that first-gen graduates often navigate unique challenges compared to our peers, which can influence our graduation experience. We prioritize other aspects of graduation, like celebrating with family and friends, and some of us were not aware of the tradition of taking graduation pictures. Also, I know financial constraints might limit our affordability to professional photography services or even the cost of attending the ceremony itself but, if you can please attend and buy those memories!

College-enrolled student interns gain hands-on experience working at one of the world’s busiest ports, with assignment opportunities in various fields such as engineering, marketing, real estate and more.
The program is open to current graduate and undergraduate students with interest in on-the-job skill building and networking in a dynamic environment.
The 10-week program runs June 3-Aug. 9. Interns may work up to 40 hours per week and should be available for in-person work, Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Depending on school year, summer interns earn from $17.00- $18.48 per hour, while summer intern engineers earn from $20.81- $32.99 per hour.
