This Small Business Month, we’re proud to highlight the story behind Kosher Nosh – one of many small businesses that benefited from First Commerce Bank financing.
With a lifelong love of food, the owner Ari Starkman, began his journey at the Culinary Institute of America before gaining hands-on experience in both restaurants and catering. Although the restaurant world offered valuable lessons, his passion ultimately led him back to catering. Driven to build something of his own, he took a leap and opened The Elan, an event & banquet hall in Lodi, NJ.
After 13 years of working with his incredible team establishing The Elan as an award-winning event venue & banquet hall, he decided it was the appropriate time to continue his growth in the restaurant industry. He was presented with the opportunity to acquire Kosher Nosh in Glen Rock. That’s where First Commerce Bank came in. Through a small business loan, the team at First Commerce Bank helped provide the financing and guidance needed to turn that vision into reality. We helped Ari preserve a community tradition while beginning the thoughtful process of modernizing the business. With the support of his wife Natalie and First Commerce Bank, the transition into the Glen Rock community was seamless.
As his business gained momentum, Ari’s mind turned to building on the successful operations of Kosh Nosh with the addition of a second location. This expansion took him to Cresskill, NJ and First Commerce Bank once again stepped in to make this a reality with another small business loan.
“When I opened The Elan, I learned early on that SBA financing was the best—and most realistic—option available to me, especially since I wanted to grow without bringing on additional partners. When the opportunity to acquire Kosher Nosh came up, I knew SBA financing would again be the right path. I spoke with several banks and compared rates and terms, and First Commerce Bank clearly stood out. They offered the most competitive rates and made the entire process straightforward."
Today Kosher Nosh continues to thrive! Their story is a reminder what with the right support, your next step is possible. Lets build it together!
