The Suzuki Carry:
Despite never being sold in Morocco officially, the streets of Tangier are filled with this little kei truck. Mostly imported from Europe to Morocco, the Suzuki Super Carry is often used for small business logistics. The vans can be spotted carrying people, herbs, furniture, even live sheep. Often, the Carry sports peculiar aftermarket stickers and other customisation. The Tanjaoui (the people of tangier), often call this van ‘Honda’, even though it clearly sports a Suzuki badge. Funnily enough, some of these trucks sport a Chevrolet badge. These identical trucks were sold in Tunesia and made their way onto the streets of Morocco.
From the beginning of my stay in Morocco, I have had an appreciation for this little truck. Small and utilitarian, it carries lots, and maneuvers through the tight streets and markets of Tangier. I love its boxy look, how every single one looks unique, and how the Tangaoui take pride in their 30+ year old ‘Honda’. I hope to drive one some day.
