On the 8th of May, Frans Nybacka’s solo exhibition “Feeling Small, Bug Pirates” opens at @bricksgallery_cph . Join us for the opening this Friday between 5-8 PM! ✨ Frans Nybacka @ransef is a visual artists whose practice centers around worldbuilding through painting. In his works, Frans combines poetic visual storytelling and imaginative juxtaposition in the creation of personifying places, objects, and environments. His characteristic works, which often resemble loose storyboards or stills from imagined video games, are a wonderful combination of ethereality, chaos, childlike innocence and mysticity.  “Feeling Small, Bug Pirates” is Nybacka’s debut exhibition in Denmark. Aala Nyman selected as FIDA Artist in Residency 2026 We are delighted to announce that visual artist Aala Nyman @aalavaan has been selected as the FIDA Artist in Residency 2026. Aala Nyman (FI, b. 1996) is based in Helsinki and graduated with a Master's degree in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki in 2025. The FIDA jury motivated their choice of the artist with the following statement: "Aala Nyman has a promising and materially sensitive practice, and her motivation persuasive in relation to the residency framework. She seems genuinely ready to benefit from curatorial support, new professional connections, and access to a different working environment. She is early in her development, but that is also part of her strength here: the residency could have a meaningful impact on the next stage of her practice. Her work is excellent and has a little bit of magic to it." FIDA is funded by @finindk the Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark, which offers Finnish know-how and facilitates cultural exchange in contemporary and performing arts, with the aim of developing and strengthening the dialogue between professional artists and institutions from Finland and Denmark and to the general public. FIDA is the Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark’s residency programme for visual artists. The purpose of the programme is to accelerate the resident’s career by offering active curatorial support, by building networks between professional artists on the contemporary Finnish and Danish art scenes, and by introducing the resident to a Danish art market. Between the 23rd to 26th of April, the world’s largest theatre festival for young audiences, KLAP - Theatre Festival, takes place in Kolding. Nordic Puppet Ambassadors (FI) and Teater Tidsrum (DK) will be performing Sea Stories: a puppet theatre adventure which invites the whole family on a journey among sea monsters and floating plastic waste, in a production exploring environmental awareness. In April, the group Muovipussi @muovipussimusic is coming to Denmark! 💥 Muovipussi will perform at the Copenhagen Circus Arts Festival (C!CAF), which takes place between the 14th and 24th of April, and also at DYNAMO Workspace in Odense. 🥁 Despite their young age, Muovipussi has already achieved international cult status. The group consists of contemporary circus artists/musicians Niklas Blomberg, Heidi Finnberg and Milla Lahtinen, and they will close C!CAF with a punk-infused, poetic circus celebration on the 24th of April. Hej! Jag heter Anna von Knorring och har sedan augusti 2025 gjort praktik i Köpenhamn på Finlands kulturinstitut i Danmark. Innan jag flyttade hit studerade jag sociologi vid Åbo Akademi, och blev färdig med min examen i fjol. 👩🏽‍💻 Mina arbetsuppgifter på institutet innefattar bland annat innehållsproduktion till våra sociala medier och vår hemsida samt planering och koordinering av institutets projekt och residenssamarbeten. För tillfället får jag också öva mina designfärdigheter då jag sammmanställer vår verksamhetsberättelse. Till arbetsuppgifterna hör även att gå på vernissage och andra konstrelaterade evenemang. Eftersom vi är ett litet team (mina kollegor Esa och Alexandra + jag) så gör vi nästan allting ihop, och jag har därför fått en väldigt heltäckande insyn i institutets hela verksamhet. 🚲 Köpenhamn är en härligt levande och social stad, och det finns alltid någonting att göra här. Jag har testat på löpklubbar, gått på dansk språkkurs, sjungit i popkör, suttit på Köpenhamns charmiga ölhak och ätit pølse från de klassiska korvvagnarna. Jag har också knutit nya vänskaper, bland annat via ett nordiskt praktikantnätverk som ordnar afterworks, och med gamla halvbekanta som jag har tagit upp kontakten med igen. Jag har sett dansk lucia (bild 3), turistat, gått på utomhusloppisar, och cyklat omkring och upptäckt staden. 💫 Som en person utan utbildnings- eller yrkesbakgrund inom kulturfältet har jag verkligen klivit in i en helt ny värld som jag är osäker på att jag skulle ha hittat ifall det inte vore för praktiken. Jag har lärt mig en massa nytt om samtidskonst, och har fått en helt ny syn på konst- och kulturfältet både i Danmark och Finland. Jag kan varmt rekommendera att ansöka om utlandspraktik, detta är verkligen en en-gång-i-livet-möjlighet! 📣Ansökan är öppen 15–31 mars och praktiken erbjuds av @kulturfonden i samarbete med @instituutit . 💫 This week, we are very excited to have welcomed Aurea Tanttu @aureatanttu to Copenhagen as one of our PortRe artists-in-residence. During her stay, Tanttu will meet with Copenhagen-based curators, gallerists, art critics, and artists. Aurea Tanttu (b. 1996) is a Helsinki-based visual artist. She holds an MFA from Konstfack University of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm and a BFA from Wimbledon College of Arts in London. In her work, Tanttu draws inspiration from her experience of growing up between countries, portraying familiar surroundings, fleeting memories, and homesickness. The PortRe residency programme is a collaboration with the Stina Krook Foundation. Focusing on the artists’ portfolios, the aim of the programme is to introduce Finnish or Finland-based artists to the Danish and Copenhagen art scene and market. Between the 11th and 22th of March, the 23rd edition of Copenhagen’s international documentary film festival @cphdox is taking over the cinemas! 📽️ The festival presents a full programme of interesting and thought-provoking documentaries from all over the world, as well as a variety of social events, talks, debates and an interactive exhibition at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Highlights from the programme featuring Finnish (co-)produced and co-directed films: 📌 “The Arctic Circle of Lust” (image 1) tells the story of a middle-aged potato farmer couple, who have to rethink the rules of their relationship as the husband comes out as bisexual. 📌 “In Full Agreement” (image 2) puts perspective on the ideological war between Russia and the west, seen from the eyes of three Russian women in Finland. 📌 “The Secret Reading Club of Kabul” takes us to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and the secret reading circle of a group of young women who are denied the right to study, work and speak freely. 📌 In “Homesick”, a Danish-Korean director explores her life as an adoptee who discovers her family history between the west coast of Denmark and the mountains of South Korea. 📌 “Almost Forever” captures a young group of friends in Stockholm trying to navigate their way from the carefree summers of childhood to the turbulent teenage years and adulthood. 📌 “Amongst the Birds” invites us to Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes in a humorous film about birds and people. 📌 “Let Our Mountains Live” follows the courtroom drama about power, land, trust, and cultural heritage between the Norwegian government and the Sami people. 🌟 Interview: a look into DYNAMO’s residency programmes 🌟 The Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark has supported @dynamo_workspace residency programmes since 2021. Based in Odense, DYNAMO is a workspace and stage for artists working in contemporary circus and the performing arts. During 2025, DYNAMO has hosted 11 artists or groups from Finland in connection with residencies, and/or performances. Join us for the opening at @arkenmuseum !✨ Tomorrow 5.2 at 18:00 is the opening of ARKEN’s spring exhibition 55.6° North. In the exhibition, the museum opens its collection of Nordic contemporary art, presenting artists from or connected to the Nordic region, amongst others Elina Merenmies @elinamerenmies and Esko Männikko. From a global perspective 55.6° North explores issues of identity and power, welfare and consumption, nature and climate, in a world where communities, values and power structures are undergoing drastic change. 📢 OPEN CALL for FIDA 2026 Residency 📢 We are happy to announce this year's Open Call for FIDA – @finindk / The Finnish Cultural Institute in Denmark's two-month residency for Finnish and Finland-based visual artists at FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design in Copenhagen, Denmark. The residency takes place from August 10th - September 30th 2026. The program welcomes applications from emerging to mid-career artists, that are Finnish or Finland-based. The purpose of the programme is to accelerate the resident’s career by offering active curatorial support, by building networks between professional artists on the contemporary Finnish and Danish art scenes, and by introducing the resident to the Danish art market.
