Sharing my music or singing in front of others took a lot of work for me. Around 18, I went through a very abusive situation that shattered my sense of self, bringing back wounds I thought I had healed. Music, once my refuge, felt like the most vulnerable thing again. I’ve always embraced vulnerability and connection, but accessing my art felt at times impossible especially around those closest to me. I promised myself I wouldn’t let this define me. I’m beyond grateful for the person that I’d like to call my home, to never stop reminding me that I am more than this experience. Supporting someone going through a rough patch of their life might not always seem to have a direct effect, but I can assure you it matters so much. After spending years following ideas that others imposed on me I promised myself that this year this will stop, this year is for showing up, creating the life I want to live and being present. So here is a glimpse of a song I wrote. we don’t need to show up perfect in order to receive care. The important thing is that we reach out. Society always tries to isolate us, and leave us feeling alone, so to be vulnerable is a way of resisting for me. Let me know what you think 💭
