Tree of Life brings together paintings, collage, photographs, and reference imagery drawn from Hank Reavis’ everyday surroundings in Washington State. Collected as a single volume, the works form a quiet, cohesive portrait of a practice shaped by place, memory, and the intersection between personal and collective experience.
Alongside lived observation, the imagery is gathered from digital archives such as Google Street View and overlooked corners of the internet, where fragments of the familiar are preserved, circulated, and gradually transformed over time. The book also offers insight into Reavis’ process, bringing forward source imagery and unused references that reflect the project’s cutting-room-floor process, showing how images are gathered, edited, and distilled into the final works.

There is beauty and purpose in everything that surrounds us. Art and humor can be present in our surroundings whenever we least expect them. In my life, I find that the things that bring me the most joy include art and humor. Even if a situation is shitty or something is ugly, it’s possible to laugh and find beauty. “Music Reflects Friendship” is the first zine I have ever put together. I tried to compile images and drawings that accurately reflect who I am as a person and what I find funny and beautiful about my surroundings. The world is a mess, and we are all going to die one day. We might as well laugh and make as much art as possible before we spend the rest of eternity in heaven or hell.
