For over four years, Finding Lost Voices has led advocacy efforts in the fight against abuse — raising awareness, supporting survivors, and amplifying voices.
Over time, a pattern became clear.
Awareness alone was not enough.
Too often, conversations happened after harm had already occurred.
Too often, support came after the fact, rather than before.
This is where our approach changes.
Today, we introduce Project Defend.
Project Defend is an initiative by Finding Lost Voices focused on strengthening abuse prevention through education, early identification, and access to safe support pathways.
It is built to address the gap between awareness and action — shifting the focus toward prevention at the root, before harm occurs.
This is a long-term initiative to create measurable impact through consistency, structure, and intentional delivery.

A lot has been said over the years.
But some things don’t change just by being said.
So we’re shifting the focus.
Closer to the beginning.
Closer to what could have been different.
Project Defend.
Coming soon.

Awareness has brought important conversations about abuse to the surface.
And that matters.
But awareness alone is not enough.
Abuse prevention requires intention.
It requires structure, education, and clear pathways for action.
The real question is:
what does abuse prevention actually look like in our homes, our schools, and our communities?
Because if we can’t answer that,
then we’re not as far as we think we are.
Prevention is not reactive — it is built, taught, and practiced.

Have you ever reacted in a way that felt bigger than the situation?
It might be more than just the moment. It could be pointing to something deeper.
In Day Two of the 7-Day Self-Awareness Challenge, our esteemed guest speaker, Treasure Godwin, shared powerful insights on emotional triggers, what they reveal, and how awareness can help you respond differently, with clarity instead of reaction.
At Finding Lost Voices, we believe self-awareness is a powerful starting point for understanding yourself, strengthening your voice, and navigating life, relationships, and difficult situations with greater awareness and safety.

According to the World Health Organization,
one in seven adolescents experiences a mental health disorder.
But these aren’t just numbers.
They’re students, children, showing up to learn while carrying feelings they rarely get to talk about or even understand.
During our Self-Awareness Campaign session at Ayetoro Grammar School, we taught students how to recognise their emotions, sit with them, and understand what their “invisible backpack” carries.
More importantly, we showed them what it means to make that backpack lighter
by speaking to someone they trust,
by choosing not to hide their feelings,
and by using journaling as a safe space for clarity, honesty, and self-awareness.
In this reel, they share what they learned.
Their voice. Their clarity. Their awareness.
Let’s hear from them.

As part of our Self-Awareness Campaign, we visited Ayetoro Grammar School, Lagos, in partnership with @imoleoluwaempowerment to speak to students about the connection between mental health and education.
Because the truth is simple:
you cannot learn well if you’re not well.
We encouraged them to slow down, sit with their emotions, and recognise that their feelings deserve attention, not dismissal.
We also reminded them that staying silent doesn’t make anyone stronger; it only makes the burden heavier.
Using your voice, speaking to someone you trust, and asking for help are acts of courage, not weakness.
As part of the session, we introduced journaling as a tool for clarity and emotional strength, gifting them copies of our “Becoming More” journal to help them begin their journey.
Every raised hand, every smile, every moment of vulnerability reminded us why this work matters:
Awareness is protection. Awareness is empowerment.
Awareness saves lives.

We asked four people one question:
“What does self-awareness mean to you?”
Their answers were honest, real, and relatable.
Because self-awareness isn’t a big word
it’s how you understand your feelings, protect yourself,
and grow into who you’re becoming.
Watch, reflect, and share your own meaning in the comments.
Let’s build a more self-aware community together.
Awareness is protection.
Protection is power.

In honor of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,
our team took the Self-Awareness Campaign into the streets of Lagos, creating an empowering space where we educated people on how awareness can help them recognize early signs of violence, make safer choices, and protect themselves from harm.
This year’s theme calls the world to UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.
At Finding Lost Voices, we believe that protection begins with awareness
the kind that helps people recognise unsafe situations earlier
and know how to access support without fear, online and offline.
Awareness is protection.
Protection is power.
Together, we say no to violence against women and girls.
