As you all probably know by now, I’m experimenting quite a bit with new work whenever I get the time.

No progress shots or timelapse on this one because, from the outset, there wasn’t really much of a plan other than to pare the work down to a minimum.

That meant taking a simple rough sketch and building on it by defining an illustration style and colour palette organically.

Quite an enjoyable process actually built from initial experiments on both my HomEage and Carte Blanche exhibitions.

Next step is to create a series of similar works and then maybe do a larger canvas version 😊.

This one comes from the Paris apartment of @christel_lkh and a wall that was just ‘waiting for a Fin DAC piece’.

That cute little furball is Taiga whom I met whilst in Paris recently. He was little stand-offish at first (expected as I was a stranger in his home) but very very sweet.

A bit of a blast from the past for y’all today… a canvas I painted for my first ever solo show in Venice, CA entitled ‘Valkyrja.

The ‘canvas’ itself was dug up from a site near the Salton Sea in the California desert… some kind of wet wall panel with a concrete screed layered over the top.

It was battered, bruised and weathered (which is exactly why I loved it) and kind of dictated how the image should be painted, forcing me to preserve as much of the original texture and damage as possible within the final piece.

I think I was drawn to it because it reminded me of the concrete slabs and Brutalist housing estates I grew up around in South East London.

Painted over the course of 2 busy days at the art fair… a relaxing enough affair that gave me time to chat and interact with lots of onlookers.

As you might imagine, the live paint generated a lot of interest and, as you can see from the red dot, sold almost immediately 😊.

Heading to the continent today to do my last preparations for @artmuc.kunstmesse in Munich next weekend.

As well as showcasing a new body of original works, I’ll be exhibiting some large one-off hand embellished prints and one quite special, very large artwork on wood.

You might have noticed I’ve been a bit quiet on here this last week or so.

I’ve taken a bit of time to see to necessary business stuff plus I’ve been working on new concepts that are at their infancy and on projects that I can’t reveal just yet.

All will be revealed in time.

What I can tell you is I’ll be heading to Düsseldorf next weekend to finalise one of those projects with @prettyportal and from there we’ll be heading to Munich for @artmuc.kunstmesse .

The image above is a mosaic of all the original works that will be exhibited at the Pretty Portal booth: it represents a big percentage of what I’ve worked on this year and will be the first time these new works/concepts are exhibited anywhere.

I haven’t timelapsed any of these colourful pieces mainly because I just wanted to get them done without the constant hassle of checking the camera and the battery etc etc.

But these photo montages definitely tell the same story in a slightly different way 🤷♂️.

I can’t even begin to tell u the amount of paper waste it’s possible to produce as an artist. But I do try my best to think of ways to reduce it.

That included doing a show on paper last year where I used the reverse side of old, misprinted or damaged prints to create new original artworks.

My latest idea is this one… cut or tear them up into smaller pieces, deckle those edges to make them look purrrtty and they’re absolutely perfect for handwritten notes that can accompany anything that’s purchased directly from the studio.

I think I might have watched a few too many episodes of Art Attack as a kid 🤷♂️. But ‘every little helps’ as they say 😬.
